I feel bad for Caro she was almost there but this is a learning experience, this will make her better because she is pushing herself and improving.
She deserve a slam in the future...

Problem is she had too many learning experiences already this year.

When I woke up and saw that the score was at 6-6 in the third I Really hoped Caroline would pull it off.

Either way she should take something from this. She's keeping matches with Serena really close. To me that suggest she has the stuff to eventually beat her next year at some point. That's not something many players can say.

If she uses the Azarenka model it seems she can keep every match close with Serena and start winning a few.

Interestingly enough, Serena is now about 1000 points ahead of Maria, so even without playing Brisbane next year she shouldn't lose her ranking until at least Australia depending on how that goes.

I think these experiences are helping her because they keep her hungry, she played great tennis at this event and she might go to no.2 come 2015.I want her to do well and put that horrible breakup behind her..

I am kind of tired of the insinuation by so many commentators that the reason WOz had slipped in the rankings was because she was in a relationship. I think that's SUPER sexist.

How is it sexist when they say the same about Rory?

Fact is, I've heard several commentators and read articles state they both have improved or regained their vigor since their breakup.

Some telling stats for Serena concerning her return of serve. The interesting thing is in 2013 she was top 3 in both stats. This year she is number 7 for 1st serve return and not in the top 10 this year for 2nd serve return which is terrible for someone looking to get the upper hand on an opponent early. No wonder a lot of people are having belief against her because she isn't punishing their serves nearly as well as she did the two years before this year. Last year versus this year:

I'm back again. Had a long meeting to attend. Saw the match though and even if Caroline lost it's a great match - again a fine promotion of womens tennis - congrats to both ladies you did a good job.:clap:clap Especially Serena that outlasted Caroline. Now relax a bit before you prepare for the next season - you deserve to be #1. :clap Caroline you were close and next time you beat her and it's in the final in Australian Open. Now run prepare for the NYC Maraton and see if you can collect at least $50000 for the running kids. Then it's the IPTL tour which wil be interesting to follow. Good luck in the next season Caroline.

I could not watch either s/final live, just finished watching Serena v Caroline match.

I just want to say Caroline to me has improved in area's of her game this year,in leaps and bounds.
Caroline has always been one of the fittest players on the WTA,though I must admit, since she has been in training for the NYC marathon,it has certainly enhanced her movement.Caroline's 1st serve has also improved this year,Caroline has always been a player to me that has never back down from a challenge,in this match against Serena she came close to defeating Serena.Caroline I wish you all the success in your marathon run...You Go Girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just watched the Serena vs. Caro match replay and it was the best match of the tourney bar none.
I could watch this Caro all day now, I hope she continues this great form into 2015. She's beating (or coming very close to beating) all the top players now and just needs to translate this to a Slam. I think she deserves it.

A funny thing happened at the beginning of the match. Caro won the toss and then asked
Serena "is it ok if I serve first"? ;) BFF

I agree BFF, but that the difference between a champion and one that is not quite there yet. Serena would NEVER ask "is it ok if I serve first"?

I don't get it if Caro won the toss why would she ask if she can serve first. What am I missing.
