This is a scam. How can somebody be awarded points for losing a match? and that too large
amounts.

It's 70 points for each match, not too bad. I guess if they awarded 40-50 you wouldn't call it a scam?!
This is WTA friend, they set their own rules, don't you tell us what those men do over at ATP.

What about $50,000 for alternates? They don't even play.

But it's a very exclusive club, only 10 are invited!

Eh I don't have any problem with it.

This is not a normal event. Hell it's not even an invitation only event. Players work ALL year to make it to this event. It's like...someone playing through qualifying at a GS event still gets points if they lose in the first round, right? It's the same thing but on a much bigger scale because you've earned the right to be one of the 8 best players of the year. I think that deserves points and monetary reward.

I don't think it's been over yet. Still there is a little possibility for Masha to advance to semis. If she beats Aga in straights and Caro defeats Petra in straights. Caro would be the winner and the rest would be 1-2 in matches. Masha would be 3-4, Petra 2-4 and Aga 2-4 in sets -> Masha would be there. The possiblility is not high but still ... if Serena can lose to Simo that way... anything can happen.
