why is simona not playing in canada?

It gives her one more week of vacation before she starts her HC season. She played the WTA Bucharest straight after Wimbeldon and badly needed some rest.
Start of next week she will be very busy in 3 events with no rest in between. Cinci, NH, USO.

She should skip NH. She is too good to play in NH. If you are #2 and if you play the
week before slam, you are stupid.

Unlike for Men, the Canada Masters is not mandatory for women. It is one of five premier-5 events.
The top players must participate in at least two of them. That's all. However, most try to play it
anyway if at all possible.

Simona has a good excuse as she just recently played in Bucharest.

^ Agree. Makes more sense to play a Masters 1000 for more points and playing the week before a slam is poor scheduling for a top player.

The one being played in Canada this week is a premier 5 event, offers 900 points to winner. Next week in Cincy, we will enjoy a mandatory event, that one 1000 pointer.

Simona will be seeded #2 for the near future in every big event (Cincy, US Open...) she enters. She will be the top seed in New Haven.
