By the virtue of her French Open run to the Finals, Simona has earned the #3 ranking in the world.

2 great weeks in Paris, a final showing and #3 ranking to boot.

With little to defend during grass season(380 points, only 100 in Wimby), she can actually move up, may be catch #2

Fantastic for Simona. She was very impressive today, despite the loss. She plays smart and brave tennis. Also an exciting tournament for runs by a few other youngsters. Bouchard and Muguruza especially notable. The future of women's tennis is looking brighter even than a couple of weeks ago.

If she defends her title in Holland, she is only defending 100 points in Wimby, she can score 2000 there. That will get her the #2 ranking.
I don't see Li Na as a big threat these days.

Not really, but she does have a good chance to gain points this grass season, lets say she gets 100-200 points this week and 500-900 points in Wimby.
That could be 600-1000 points, it would be more than last year.

Li Na hasn't won anything since January, since Miami when she lost to Serena in finals, she has been losing earlier and earlier each event, last time she lost in the first round. Before that, she lost to Sara, which almost never happens. She is definitely vulnerable in Wimby, defending 500 points.

I am not bothered one bit about Wimby believe it or not. What matters is that she went through the emotional phase of playing a slam final. Thats invaluable. She wont be overwhelmed next time in a slam final or any final.
There are no more intimidating stages for her, and now we will see the real Simona keeping her cool.

What an amazing story of the little girl which was nobody until 15 months ago. Then she started changing her life around and was fighting for her destiny. People should learn from her and not just in Sports.
Thats what I call a role model.

The problem with many tennis fans these days is that they are trending. They go by the trend.
Its not safe at all to say that Simo will be no.1. Its not safe at all to say that she will win a slam.
Maybe non of the two will happen, but I do not care!
She has done enough for me to be her big fan. What she did until now is good enough for me.

If Serena is back in form then I cant see Simona passing her to be honest. Simona has a big mental fear, but she can surprise herself, who knows. Then its the sugar babe and Vika and Genie and others.
Things can change quickly. An injury will set her back. Million things can happen.
I am just enjoying the present. No more than that. I dont predict. I think its not wise.

Good to see but not the way it happened, ie. by default since Li had to pull out of the US Open. Always prefer to see players earn rankings by way of going up places through winning rather than because the player above them lost a ton of ranking points due to injury. Regardless, Li is so inconsistent it was always on the cards anyway.
