Pova listed the drug at AO. She will not get two years. Watch her team spin this. It will be manipulation of the grandest scale. I am hearing three months to one year. Media is taking all the incriminating evidence and using it to make her look innocent. Incredible.

She will face a three member panel who will decide her fate. I bet they pick people with no common sense nor understanding of science. Pova will miss FO, but will be screaming her empty head off at Wimby.

Can you give us a link to verify your claim. Thanks.

No matter what her ban length ends up, she will have to come back clean and play. Can she do that? She's been relying on the enhancement of that drug all these years. Now we'll find out what she's really made of when she has to win these 3-set battles O Naturale...

If she is really taking for medical/health reasons their team can file an appeal under retroactive TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption) and this can actually completely eliminate the ban and allow her to continue to use the drug later on as well.

So far her team has not done this although they claim they are looking into that avenue also.
My guess is that their team will not take the road of retroactive TUE as it would be very difficult to sell to the tribunal (that a 28 year old healthy athletic woman needs medication primarily given to folks who have angina).

I think if the ban is more than two years, she will not come back (except possibly as a doubles player).

they can gloss it over in gold dust all they can that spectre of being a doper has touched her career and the wold will look at her with different eyes..no more saying she is mentally strong because we now know she got it from the drug...

She should get 2 years but I reckon she'll return before the US Open which frankly is bs.

Again as I keep saying, SO MANY players out there are doping and just not getting caught and you can be sure these players everyone says have amazing mental strength are taking something for their concentration. Either a highly effective drug that happens to not be on the banned list or they're using a masking agent to hide it. Diuretics act as masking agents and hence why so many players are cramping in recent years. It's not 'cos they're not fit enough it's because many of them are doping and taking diuretics to hide the PEDs but the effect of diuretics is dehydration so they cramp. The media and officials of course are idiots and simply put it down to hot conditions and that the players aren't fit enough. Clueless and of course they keep on getting away with it time and time again, week in week out.

My next comment might have to be deleted because of this board's policy, but she did take growth hormone before it was added to the banned list. My husband knows people in the industry who confirm that she took it.

This is hearsay and libel, so please don't post such things again. Thanks.

I read somewhere that she had listed the drug at AO, and will post when I find the source.

She must have listed it. The only theory that makes any sense is that a disgruntled worker paid to monitor her emails wanted to bring her down, and never told her about the addition to the banned list.

Here you go. Lindsey Davenport said she declared it. Either way she deserves 2-4 years for taking this $h1t for 10 years when it was borderline banned/under strict investigation for over a year and they sent 5 warnings late last year to all the players. Clearly she and her team are a bit dense. Queue blonde jokes. She'll probably get a few months tops though which is a joke when you read the pathetic excuses of her problems: supposed heart issues, diabetes risk in the family, magnesium deficiency. There's just so much wrong there. It's for patients with major heart problems. Running around hitting tennis balls as hard as you can is not a serious heart condition. Diabetes risk? Yeah, let's sell sweets 'cos you love sugar so much and if you're deficient in magnesium guess what you take? Magnesium tablets maybe? LOL. They are all so laughably stupid they deserve the full sentence, her and her team.

If she had declared it at AO, she herself or her lawyer would have shouted it from roof top.
She might have declared it until last year, when it was legal to take it. The real question is did
she declare it at AO this January 2016.

The interesting thing is that players are not required to declare all the drugs they are consuming, but are recommended to do so. So, not declaring it would in itself will not be a crime. But, if she has declared it, it would help to prove her innocence. But, I doubt she declared it as otherwise her team would have given wide publicity to it.

Here is a quote from the Guardian fact check article that I linked earlier.

Did she put meldonium down on her drug sample collection forms?

Her team declined to comment on whether she ever had or had not, citing medical confidentiality.

Questions still to be answered: The above, although while it is seen as “best practice” by athletes to provide details of all medications that they are taking, there is no obligation to do so.

It would be disastrous if she had regularly put mildronate in her sample collection forms until last year and then conveniently forgot to put it in this year's AO sample collection form. :devil

there is no excuse for her behavior and she accepted responsibility so she should accept the penalty...even if its 4yrs.
Justin Gatlin served his full sentence and Nike took him back but he is constantly talked about by other runners in a negative way.
pova is trying to wiggle her way out of 4yrs when she accepted responsibility for taking a drug..

There's zero chance she's getting 4 years. 1 year would surprise me as the authorities are gutless.

A lot will depend on how much pull WADA have in giving her the appropriate sentence and not letting the ITF reduce it. They should be the ones determining things and not some paid off judge and jury and corrupt tennis officials.

Dick Pound is a honcho in the sports world and thrives on these doping situations....he said Maria is not telling the truth and this comes from someone who has a lot of influence and if they get the idea that she wants to get out of a ban they will give her the full penalty.Maria is going to get 1yr to 2yrs ban she is not going to get off easy like what the media wants...they are going to make her the example..

WADA will not be involved at all in the proceedings. It will be ITF that will decide on the punishment. Until then WADA cannot do anything. However, if WADA feels that the punishment is too lenient they can appeal to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) and present its case as to why the punishment should be increased.

it looks like doping is rampant in the russian sports team and they could be banned from the Olympics.I think Maria is going to be the example because they want to draw attention to doping in Russia. They picked her strategically to draw attention to this problem and humiliate their brightest star. They know this will hurt the most...pova is just a pawn and unfortunately will pay. There could be political undertones attached to this...just saying..:popcorn
