This was the scene for that one.

Thanks.

Well, we can't say that he didn't care; obviously he cared a lot. I think he was being too hard on himself though because he had been out of competition for a while and of course he wasn't going to be as grooved as he wanted to be. Then again, this may set him up very well for the ATP Finals at the end of the year. I can never remember the name of that tournament.

Given Nole's issues it must be said that Murray now has a legit chance at finishing the year #1. But London is a wet dream of a playing surface for Nole. If he does poorly there that'd be telling.

6th title of 2016 and 41st of his career.

Are there still people who think Wawrinka might be equal to or better than Murray?:)

Congratulations to Murray. He is having probably the best year of his career. Also congratulations to Batista Agut for reaching his first Masters 1000 final. Great week for him as well.

As for Nole, he is really finding it hard to motivate himself. I suspect he could find himself doing just enough to finish #1 but it is obvious that his heart in not in tennis right now. Frankly a little of letdown could be expected and happens to all of players from time to time, happened to him in 2011, 2013, 2014. If not by the end of this season, he could lose his top ranking next year, but that might be just the right thing to right the ship for him. I believe he'll reinvent himself and come out fresh and motivated at the start of the next season.

At least it is much more interesting now that the serious chase for that top ranking is on.:D

What a nice post. That's a healthy way for a fan to look at things. Loved your post.

Murray really is the on-form player at the moment. And I'm pleased for Bautista Agut. Novak is a bit of a mystery, for now, but I'm sure the refresh is not far away.

I don't think anyone seriously thinks Wawrinka is greater than Murray at this point. The discussion is what if Stan somehow finishes with more slams including possibly winning a career slam. In that case it'd be a serious debate.

Yep, if Stan wins a career slam... he's in the argument. Until then, Murray is firmly ahead.

You have to think, at 32 next summer, that Wawrinka's not winning Wimbledon. But he added Krajicek to the team, so he's implied that he's serious about winning on grass. Who knows, with Stan? Murray looks like the one with more general upside, and he might be ready to finally get that AO that has alluded him. Given age and relative options, I have a hard time seeing Stan usurping Murray's standing.

What's going o with No1e? He's playing like drugged.

listless.

but we have to remember :

to KEEP number one -- such HIGH CONSISTENCY and excellence for so long - so continuously -- have we all NOT seen it already?

we are - in a sense -- asking for too muchof our players...NOLE is simply ''suffering" the same thing that has visited others before him. nadal, federer, -- all of them -- sooner or later the constant demands to keep up every single darn time -- watching watching watching every single darn point -- nd executing at the very highest level every darn second...

he is human.
