He's given to the ironic smile when he's frustrated. In the RBA video that you posted above, at the end, when asked about potentially playing Novak, he says: "I think it's a good moment to play against him." LOL. He's not totally wrong about that, as Novak had a lot of UFEs in the match, and the serving is still an issue. However, I don't see Roberto as a giant-slayer here, either.

Didn't see any of the Murray match, but he made short work of Goffin, it seems. He must be playing some good tennis. Did you watch @britbox ?

I saw it. Goffin played great, but Murray was on form. It was a really good match, but there was little that Goffin could do. If Andy plays the same way going forward. He wins the tournament.

Forgive me for quoting myself. I just woke up to watch the last 3 points, so I don't have any perspective on the match. But apparently Bautista Agut had a little giant slayer in him, after all.

Still a shock... although Novak was pretty lacklustre against Mischa Zverev yesterday. I kind of got the impression that he didn't really want to be there.

15-Roberto Bautista (Spain) beat 1-Novak Djokovic (Serbia) 6-4 6-4

Roberto said two days ego: "!'m playing a good tennis, I feel that I can beat to anyone"
I've always said that even without many titles he is a very dangerous player.

Meanwhile Simon is giving some fight to Muzz

Kyrgios fined for his tank.

The "you can't criticize me because I'm better than you" argument is always the worst, with all due respect to Nick. By that logic, none of us can ever criticize a player's performance in any sport. Hell, we can't even criticize politicians or even chefs for that matter (I can't cook for the life of me, but I can spot a shitty meal).

And by Nick's logic, if every player ranked ahead of him or any former player who's more accomplished than him criticized him, then he just has to shut up and take it, since they're better than him. Makes zero sense.

Yeah, Nick has a lot of growing up to do... Looked relaxed in Tokyo, won the tournament... as soon as the spotlights on him again in China, he cracks up.

Though Novak remains #1 for now, he looks and sounds as if he has begun the inevitable fall all players must face.
The latter part of the season shows it, and his career matches played (898) is in the range of players who stop winning the big titles.
He has had an incredible run at the top, but it doesn't last forever. Boris Becker looks like he will not remain as Novak's coach according to the latest statements being made.

Murray looks like he'll be #1 quite soon, possibly by Year End the way he and Novak are playing at the moment.

If Andy wins the title in Shanghai tomorrow, he will have 9685 points and be 915 points behind Novak in the Race To London, and here is how the point projection looks with their respective schedules (Andy - Vienna, Paris, WTF, & Novak - Paris, WTF) the remainder of the year.

However, recall that Andy has 275 DC points that apply to the race but will drop from his year end totals by Nov 28, so that would have to be considered for Year End rankings.

The World Tour finals could be pivotal. Andy has not done anywhere as well as Novak there over the years, but considering their respective form at the moment, perhaps that will change.

Regardless of Year End results, Novak defends a couple of tons of points early next year (4250 by Miami, while Andy defends somewhat less than 1500), and he will be in great position to take #1 at some point during that time if Novak cannot defend his early titles.

Nothing is certain of course. Novak could have a resurgence. Players get injured, hot, cold; tennis can change fast.

Respectfully,
masterclass

Murray smashes the tie break to take the first set, yet he shouldn't have surrendured that break earlier.

Novak was very angry with Bernades too. Carlos told him he was holding up RBA and Novak even brought it up in the press conference. He was very testy during and after that match.
