My goodness, Rafa looks a bulldozer, just 4 erros in all the match and he keeps playing brilliant, it’s a real pleasure to watch him with such confidence even it’s supposedly his worst surface and leaving back those bad patches

Carol..this was one of his best performances of the year. I wished he would have been able to play Roger 30 minutes afterwards his match vs the Fog..He is ready for Roger if he continuously perform at this high level

Nadal has had some very good results on outdoor hard court which this is. His worst surface is indoor hard court. Basel, Paris, WTF are all indoor so it's still a case of wait and see how indoor season goes.

The surface was taking Nadal's spin very well in Beijing, which surprised me. I know it's an outdoor hard court, but the surface is typically low bouncing. It still is, but Nadal is hitting with real ferocity. I haven't seen either of his matches in Shanghai yet though.

Yep, his serve, BH and confidence is working great which is the best combination to get such a good results. He is finishing the matches pretty quick but tomorrow against Dimi probably it will be a little tougher, we'll see

As I said earlier, Nadal has always had very good results for the most part on outdoor hard courts but a lot of people confuse the Asian swing for indoor and these Asian tournaments are outdoor. It remains to be seen still how he's playing on indoor hard courts and outdoor hard court is very different than Bercy and London. The Paris indoor court sucks imo but in terms of which surface is closest to the ATP courts in London, it's Basel that provides the best practice in terms of similar court dynamics. I don't like the WTF courts last few years much either but they're night and day different to these outdoor events. Nadal's top spin is way less effective indoors and that's why his results there have been poor. He can't pin opponents into the backhand corner and his forehand is nowhere near as effective as on other surfaces.

Confidence helps though and he's playing very well right now.

I would say Nadal is the clear frontrunner as it stands... but if Federer won the YEC then it's an interesting debate.

^^^ For now I think it's Nadal. Roger has the advantage of beating him soundly this year (ironic), but let's not ignore that he skipped the entire clay court season where he didn't have a real chance at winning much. In a way, this protected his results this season (not that it was his priority to do so. He clearly did it to be fresh for grass, wisely).

However, this is typically Roger's time of the year and if he's playing well, he's just better than Nadal on these types of surfaces so it wouldn't surprise me if Roger won at least a Masters and the WTF, which could well make him the POTY.
