A lot of good matches tomorrow.  This is why M1000 are sometimes harder to win than majors.   A top guy can be easily upset in an early round in 2/3 set matches and once they move past that, it is play every day.

With Federer's loss, I think Andy will probably take over #2 ranking next week.

Looking forward to see who will now be able to make the finals in the bottom half of the draw. It will be very interesting for me.

Yes, pretty sure Andy will be #2 next week.  I doubt Federer will be that concerned about it as long as he stays in the Top 4.

I am so happy to see you.  :yahoo:

We'll see how things will progress, it is kind of open, really, on all fronts.  Nole, Wawrinka, Nadal did well last week, but will they continue with their forms?

i was really quite surprised that ROGER lost today...

yes - there is too a first time , such as for his opponent today -- yet it was very UN-federerlike - imo -- since he did play quite well , usually enough, in the second set come-back -- but even if he may have been rusty from a long break -- he usually manages to close it out .

nonetheless -- he looks GOOD physically - i think. the beautiful game and athleticism remains as amazing as can be.

amazing how he can move so gracefully indeed.

and THAT , coming from someone like me that never was quite his ''bandwagon federer'' accolyte..

at this point in his career -- being number one is indeed not foremost on roger's mind.

why should it? he's been there -- done that. he doesn't have to keep proving himself on that account. i'm not exactly the 'devoted'' roger fan -- but i certainly think that what he has done already is just phenomenal . the fact that he can still walk out there and BE among the main contenders on a given day - and week or even in slams --

what else is there to say ? tennis -- whether fans like him more or not -- (and i'm on the 'negative' side -- if people can say that) -- can only be grateful we even STILL see him play after everything he has already accomplished -- and then some.

Yes, I don't think #1 is a big deal for Roger.  I think he just still likes playing and his real crosshairs are focused on adding one or more major titles.

^ I've just read yesterday how he wants to go back to #1 but realises No1e is a huge problem. He also said he needs to beat No1e all the time to become #1 again and he hopes he will be able to do so.

As for the Shanghai Masters, do you know that this is historical tournament? This is the first time that 3 players with 10 or more slams played in the same tournament.

Hi @herios, glad to read you again.

I can't see Fed getting back to #1 if Novak is healthy at this stage of his career, but I like the tone he's setting. He's continually trying to evolve his game... but the flip side is that father time waits for no man.  Then again, I didn't think he'd get back to #1 last time he did it.

As a Fed fan, I'd be happy with one more major.  I think it's possible.

Morning from Canada.  Klizan started to play better, not making nearly as many UEFs as at the beginning.

And after being down a break in the 1st set, Wawrinka takes it in a TB.

Nole was up 4:0 and was about to serve when he got broken, so Klizan took 2 games in a row at that point.  He is hitting well and then loses patience and overcooks it, Klizan I mean.

Too bad Viktor couldn't do better in set #1 when he was up a break.  It is so hard against top players, you have to use any chance that could be presented to them.

Good job by Nole, business like performance.

Wawrinka is through as well.  No point in going back to sleep for another half an hour.  I'll check Richard and Vasek, Vasek is up a break in set #2.

Just catching up with the rest of the results:  Tomic beat Ferrer, Isner bt Goffin, Berdych bt Sock and Anderson beat F3 (darn it Fabio).
