Rafa has the big hitters in his half, Novak has Andy and Roger. I'll scrutinise the draw when I get home, but this could be interesting...

Relieved to see Fed in the draw; there were some rumors that he may skip this in view of circus.

Murray got good deal. He gets to face slumping Ferrer in R16. Instead, it could have been Kei, Milos
or Berdych, all of whom are hot.

Not so sure the ladies here would class this as hot ? :snigger

I'm guessing gentlemen of a certain persuasion might find this hot, though:

^^ I am sure I can find a whole bunch of unflattering photos of other players.:ras:

At least Nole can't play both Roger and Kei, but Andy is in his quarter again, 3 tournaments in a row.:nono

In Beijing, Nole got hosed again in his half with Grigor and Murray while Nadal had a qualifier in the 3rd round with Berdych later! This happens all too often with Rafa getting sacrificial lambs from his country and other pigeons like Berdych! lol! Must stink to be in the Nadal household after this tourney! He better do better in Shanghai or he might not hold onto #2 ranking IMO! :nono :puzzled

What I am hoping is the same Nadal shows up in Shanghai, as in Beijing and Milos gets a chance to meet him:cool:

My realistic expectation for Fed in Shanghai is to reach SF and lost to Novak. His QF
against Kei (projected) should be OK considering that Kei is toiling for the last two weeks
and has back pain, leg pain etc. RBA cannot trouble Rog in R16.

According to my calculations with Shanghai points of last year removed, Rafa leads
Roger in regular rankings by just 15 points. So, if Roger goes to one round higher
than Rafa in Shanghai, Roger would come out of Shanghai ranked #2.

In particular, if Milos can take out Rafa in QF and Roger can reach SF, Roger would
become #2.

However, any points that Rafa gets in Basel would simply add to his ranking points
as he has nothing to defend there. But, Roger has 300 points to defend in Basel. So,
even if Rafa loses his #2 ranking to Roger in Shanghai, there is good chance that
he can get it back after Basel and be #2 ranked again for the Bercy Masters.

James Ward did well to qualify for this one, beating Troicki convincingly in the final round.

Andy's draw is decent until Nole in the QFs. Hard to gauge the chances of Djokovic getting upset before then, you wouldn't have backed him to lose to Tsonga, Robredo or Nishikori on hard courts but then he crushed everyone in Beijing... I doubt he'll lose.

Nadal is one to watch after a disappointing loss to Klizan last week, Roger has had some time off so may be vulnerable early on if someone feels inclined to step up to the plate, but I doubt he'll have too much trouble.

Djokovic vs Thiem should be a good match.
