Med falls early.

I think I heard Vasek isn't even in the top 100 anymore! WTF happened to him? He & Sock were flying high in doubles! It translated into good singles results; esp. for Sock who won a Masters event 2 years ago making YEC! If Pospisil can get another win, his ranking should jump exponentially from #104!

He had back surgery in January 2019 to repair a herniated disc. Impressive comeback.

What happened to Meddy and Tsitsipas? Looks like they are still having a down under blues.

Medvedev surely found a hot opponent in Pospisil. Tsitsipas has spoken about not handling the pressure of the "sophomore slump." Plenty of young players struggle when they go from on the hunt to being the hunted, and having to deal with a huge leap in level of scrutiny. I think they'll get their feet back under them, but we'll see.

The quarterfinal matches have not begun yet. However, already six of the top eight seeds have gone home. Only Rublev and Monfils left. :astonished-face:

The next genners are proving that they don't need a Big three member to beat them up.

But Rublev is Next Gen, and FAA and Sinner are still in.

Yes, let us see. I would not be surprised if all of them lost and a lost genner wins the tourney.
I'm not sure who's left that even qualifies as a Lost Genner, but here's the QFs and ages:

Krajinovic (27) v. Rublev (22)
Monfils (33) v. Evans (29)
PCB (28)
v. Sinner (18)
FAA (19) v. Bedene (30)

I bolded those that might qualify as "Lost Gen," though they're certainly not the poster children for it. Monfils is the old man still in. I like him over Evans. And probably Rublev. I'd love to see FAA keep up his run, but could be the end of the road for him and Sinner. Who do you like?

Monfils is up in his confidence with a recent trophy in his home country 250. He may actually win it.

I don't think FAA or Sinner is ready to win a trophy yet.

Although not hopeful, I am rooting for Rublev to win this tourney at this point.

Funny thing about Monfils: I noticed yesterday that Simon was leading their H2H 7-2, which I found a bit surprising. I figured that would change today, based on trend, and it did. The top half could produce Monfils v. Rublev, which I think would be fun to watch. It's hard not to think that one of those would win the tournament. Could be some interesting matches tomorrow.

Of all the players left, I find Evans the most exciting to watch. Rublev is super aggressive and I like seeing pushers like Simon and Monfils get hammered but there's much more to Evans' game than ball bashing.

Only catching the 3rd set of PCB v. Sinner, but it has been very entertaining. Fantastic...some really flashy stuff from Sinner. Both had match points and not just in tb. PCB gets in done in the end. But Sinner was down 0-3 in the 3rd. Fought back in a couple of thrilling games. Had MPs in the TB, but the Spaniard snuck past him at the finish line.
