It is a loaded field, I am looking forward to this.

A

auto-pilot

Wawrinka has a shot if he's recovered from winning that 4th set at the AO yet.

Very much so. Here is a quick field check of the 4 ATP 500 tourneys in Feb.

Rotterdam has 5 top players (Murray, Berdych, Wawrinka, Grigor and Raonic).
Rio has 2 (Rafa and Ferrer)
Dubai has 4 (Roger, Novak, Andy and Berdych)
Acapulco has 4 (Nishikori, Cilic, Ferrer, Grigor).

Of course, Dubai has the strongest field as expected, despite the number being bit small.
But, the number is small due to Acapulco being in the same week.

Very nice field indeed. Unfortunately I won't be able to watch anything live till the weekend, just replays. I am hoping for Berdych to win!

It would have been too much tennis for Federer, considering he will play Dubai just a week after this. Players need their rest, younger or older, it doesn't matter. After Dubai, there will be a DC tie, then they come back for the dreaded IW and Miami swing. End of February and March are going to be brutal (3 different continents for those who play Dubai, DC in Europe and North American Masters 1000 double).:nono

I get the logic, but it's a tournament where Fed can really thrive and be fun to watch. For Delpo, I would just love to see him play a tournament... but injuries are injuries. I miss my second favorite player though.

I love the fact that you are awarding Grigor (ranked 11) the top drawer status. :snicker
If the 11 ranked player would be named Isner, would you include him in the top as well?:-/

Yeah, I know what you mean...fans always want to see their favorites play.

I am dreading Nole's DC participation already and never want to see him play a tournament not ready, tired or injured.

Poor Delpo, at this point I think that somebody messed up his diagnosis and treatment badly.:cry

Yeah it's the opposite. Knock on wood, thankfully novak is almost never injured. Delpo on the other hand barely plays...

this should be an interesting tournament. I'm feeling some early upsets on the horizon.

Go Berdych!

Just realized that Berdych's 1st round opponent is Janowicz, who had to retire from the Montpellier final. Maybe he'll get a lucky loser instead?

Actually, I considered top 12 players, even though I did not go on to elaborate as
to what I mean by top player.

In answer, to your other question, you are right. If Isner was ranked 11th, I would
have stopped at top 10. If Milos was ranked 9th, I would have stopped at top 8. :laydownlaughing

Top 2 seeds Murray and Raonic play qualifiers in the first round:
Murray will play Mahut and Raonic will play Kuznetsov.
Janowicz got replaced by lucky loser Kamke.
