I saw some of Arthur Fils highlights in YouTube and if we will compare him to past, recent French players, I would say he is somewhat of a hybrid between Tsonga and Monfils.

He has the same physical built as Tsonga but shorter. In addition, he has the same mindset (aggressive and going to the net to finish points) and FH aggressiveness as Tsonga. He is somewhat similar to Monfils in terms of athleticism. Obviously, Monfils is A LOT more athletic and flexible, but Fils is quick on the court.

Here are Fils' stats for 2023: As you guys can see, he is a good returner, but his serving stats, specifically his 2nd serve stats need to be A LOT to be desired.

Seb Korda defeated Medvedev for the 2nd time out of 2 meetings in 2023 ( defeated Medvedev at the AO this year) and advances to round 4 76(8) 62.
Sinner and Ruud now only top 10 left in the bottom half of the draw.

Happy to see Korda won. It’s been a long comeback from injury this year. Hopefully this will restore the confidence. It will be a nice match to watch with the morning coffee!

I wont spoil it for you, though impressed with Seb in the TB saved 3 SPs, kept his head, though I must admit Meddy serve let him down in the TB, good confidence booster for Seb, whose form after coming back from the wrist injury this year has been up and down.

Good comeback after a tough 1st set
Not the best performance, the next match R4 v Ben Shelton

I was ready to congratulate the top seeds for holding up; albiet w/ sets lost! Now I see Medvedev dropped his match to Korda who was booming the serve! Daniil kept it close early, but wilted after getting to China Open finall last week IMO! Sinner's draw opened up so he better take advantage of that to make another contest against his top rival, Carlos Alcaraz! Shelton might be tough, but he's all "serve" IMO so far! What was this lighting situation about during the match w/ Korda & Daniil? Weird! :astonished-face: :fearful-face: :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Some bad losses. I wondered if he would ever get back to the good form he showed at the beginning of the year. Today reminded me of why I like him so much. Solid mid court game,. Good first and second serve. Transitions well. Beautiful volleying. Daniil was never comfortable the whole match. This win should be a boost to his confidence

More upsets; some expected more than others! Looks like the YEC will decide the ultimate #1 for the season! I thought Novak w/b well ahead of last season's tally missing so many events, but even though he won 3 of the 4 majors this year, he could still wind up in 2nd place! Something's wrong w/ that in so many ways! :face-with-head-bandage: :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :astonished-face: :fearful-face: :face-with-tears-of-joy:

He missed many events, but he also ran up his points last fall w/ all those results and then he won the ATP Finals. Even though he won three slams this year he hasn't won as many M1000s and Charlie has done a pretty good job of getting to the SF or Final of all his tournaments played.

IIRC, that Fall run wasn't that great! We're talking Astana (500), Tele Viv (250), R-up in Paris, & The YEC (1500)! By taking Cinci in August, he made up for Rome last season! I guess what's making the big difference is Carlos isn't defending any points from last Fall! Novak has to match it to stay on top & at least make the YEC final more than likely! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :astonished-face: :fearful-face:  :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I guess that’s part of getting older, you play less tourneys. He may forfeit #1 to be healthy for the slams. I am wondering if he’ll be tempted to play Monte Carlo. He wins that and he‘ll have a triple career golden Masters.

Novak needs goals even if he doesn't bring them up! I was just thinking about that Triple GM's after winning Cinci for the 3rd time! I think it would be worthwhile going after another MC M1000, a 5th USO to be 1 up on Rafa, 1 more FO to go 4 CGS, a Wimbledon to match Roger's 8, & 3 more of his pet Major "down under" to finish off his career w/ 13 AO's! He'll be so far ahead of his rivals, even they'll have to give it up to the man w/ 30 Majors, 4 CGS, a triple GM, 400+ wks. @ #1, w/ 8 YE #1's! It w/b very realistic believe it or not!:face-with-head-bandage: :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :astonished-face: :fearful-face:  :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Shelton wins the 2nd set 6-3 to even the match at a set a piece.

By the way, happy birthday to Ben Shelton, who turned 21 yesterday.
