I'm so over Raonic! It's not like he has that much game, but he makes his job so hard allowing "has-beens" like Tsonga to hang around for 3 sets! Neither have much outside of their serves and I/O FH's; if they're clicking! Both should just give it up; esp. Jo-Willy! :nono:

How did Perseus get slaughtered like that? I guess he's now off to that worthless Nextgen tourney. Hope he takes another step forward in 2019, this tour badly needs a young player to show some promise.

More growing pains after so much adulation, pomp, & circumstances! It's hard to get away from; esp. the bad press of his need to apologize to a ball kid recently! Not sure I could take it; the constant scrutiny of social media, the tennis hierarchy, and expectations from home! Tsitsipas should have too much game to allow himself to fall into obscurity! I like the "Next Gens;" plenty of game, but they'll have to overcome their own heads! :cuckoo:

How can we possibly be disappointed by Tsitsipas? He is the young player of the year - starting 2018 at #91 and ending in the top 20. Not so bad at all. He's probably just gassed - he's played about 80 pro matches this year.

I totally agree.
One guy, just barely 20, marches from just inside top 100 into the top 20 in a year is a rarity in the last decade.
The majority of the next Gen are coasting in the mid pack 2-3 years before arriving to the top 20 level.
Only Zverev rose this fast like Stefanos, nobody else since Delpo and Cilic, when they were 20 or so.

I find it ridiculous the expectations put on these young players. The last teenager to rise high and never look back was Rafa...and it's not like a Nadal comes along every day. Hewitt, Agassi, Becker, anyone? Give him time.

BTW, has anyone noticed that the ATP site has been less and less reliable and seems to have completely broken down today? I can't find the order of play for tomorrow, even on the tournament website.

Just Google "Paris Masters" and the schedule should show up at the top of the page, then navigate to tomorrow. They give estimated times.

Agreed on the young players. Not only are we in a different era in terms of aging patterns, but we tend to compare every young player to guys like Rafa, Roger and Novak, which is hardly fair. We may not see another guy like those three for decades; more likely the next great player will be in the more garden variety 5-8 Slam title range, like most all-time greats. There are only five double-digit Slam winners of the Open Era, which is now 50 years, after all.

Thanks for that schedule, Baron. A lot of interesting matches tomorrow. I'm not too worried about Verdasco, for Nadal. Dare I hope for Tiafoe v. Zverev? Coric v. Medvedev could be a fight. And a few others.

As I already mentioned, since JMDP withdrew from WTF, three of the four players, Cilic, Thiem, Kei and Isner will now qualify for the WTF. Exactly one of them will be left out. No other players are in contention for WTF.

Interestingly, these four have landed on four different quarters of the draw here. So, to a certain extent each control their own destiny.
Assuming, all four reach quarters, only Isner has the easiest opponent viz., Sasha. The other three will be facing Big Three. Thiem will face Nadal, Nishi will face Fed and Cilic will face Novak.

Considering the form, Cilic got the worst deal and Isner got the best deal. It is also sort of poetic justice considering Cilic leads the pack of contenders and Isner trails all other contenders.

Keep an eye on the progress of these four. One will be left out.

I hope there will be a Federer-Djokovic match here or a Federer-Nadal. It's been a while since I saw an intense and fierce match. And Federer needs to get a big win right now.

Actually, I am of the opinion that playing here will make him betterer at WTF.

Fed can't handle matches on consecutive days anymore, we've seen this multiple times these past couple of years. He's going to exhaust himself for the WTF if he goes deep in Paris. I would be surprised if he even got out of the RR stage actually.

So far not overplaying...he got a w/o from Raonic. Don't know what's wrong with him, but I did notice there was a lot of talk yesterday about Tsonga's knee and nothing about Raonic's recent struggles with injury.
