True. Totally wasted opportunity. Very winnable match unfortunately.

faker was 0/11 on BPs. He won't get a more unclutch fakervic than that. Unfortunately Fed played a stinker of a TB cause he was too tired by then.

One more record, probably, 0/12 break points by Djoker

Losing while not being broken is a special type of awful. Roger's game is still trash but he served great the last two sets. I thought he started moving better but his backhand and return are just worthless.

The sad thing is the past 2 years prior to Rotterdam, those were the 2 main things he had vastly improved in his game and they've gone right back down the toilet now in a hurry.

Yep that and the mental aspect. He looked the better man for most of the third set and then he disappeared as soon as the TB started.

Yup. Just hope it doesn't ruin his chances at the WTF as a result of this, though I don't think he had much hope there anyway the way he's been playing. Having that long a match today and winning would've been forgivable.

Forgot the year but he did that against Djokovic at Indian Wells as well. 7-1 or 7-2 TB loss I believe off the top of my head after being much better most of the match.

Pretty good from Federer for his age. He was fantastic at times. A lot of exquisite shots. The TB decided everything.

I felt he was much better here than at Cincy and that he can actually still put up a decent show with Djokovic. He can play Djokovic and beat him.
I am sure Federer will do a good job of figuring out what he needs to do against Djokovic to win. I am actually feeling okay. Federer can only get better from here.

Fed winners - 54, faker - 31

pushers gonna push. Faker pushes like a labour nurse "push push push push, push a little more, just a little more fakervic"

SF at Shanghai
W at Basel
SF at Paris.

I don't think it is bad.

And his best is yet to come. I would be more excited about AO with their faster court. Rather than WTF.

Very nice to see Novak being able to play these matches again the past 6 months. Incredible turnaround, 2017 makes you need to rejoice every win, especially against Fed or Nadal.

Don't know what it is about Novak's 2nd serve but Roger can't seem to buy a chance against it!

I have to say, this was a performance quite beyond what I thought Federer was capable of given his recent form. The fact that this was on such a slow surface makes it even more impressive. This puts his performance in Cincinnati into context. At their respective best I would take this sort of result in Paris, particularly when Roger wasn't serving particularly well. There was one point that showed what the new Federer backhand could potentially do, when he drilled a DTL backhand. It gives me hope that the old man might not be quite as done as I thought. These guys (Novak, Rafa and Federer) never cease to amaze me. It seems like we have to see them sign an official document retiring before we can ever write them off...

Just sad the better tennis player lost and this pusher won. Too sad really. Too sad this pusher doesn't have any competition other than a 37 yo Fed whereas Fed had prime faker and prime dull at 32. Sickeningly unfair this is for Fed. This pusher is gonna break all his records because this next gen are dickless bastards.

Agree. Competitive stuff from Fed.

He was keeping up in rallies with Djokovic. He served excellently. He returned well. As a fan, I am encouraged. And, also, I'm happy to see that even today their matches are so competitive. Nothing's changed after all these years. And that the guys are back. The Big 3 scene is back.

He obviously played well and better than he has for months! It was quite impressive to keep up with Nole and saving so many BP's!

Federer's out of form at times. But. He's right there as one of the top guys in the game. Nothing to worry. If anything he'll retire in fine shape.

My only regret is that Roger probably could have been more aggressive early. He was playing quite defensively in the first set which I was wondering why would chose to do.
