I'm gonna have to get up early to watch Rafa. Weather looks to be okay, though, so they should catch up.

Early matches suit me perfectly, so if they don't delay it I will watch Nadal tonight. btw, isn't this strange that he plays every match on Lenglen? Shouldn't he be the biggest attraction on Chartrier?

Oh, Mastoor...now you're just doing the equivalent of a gamesmanship "bump." I don't care if Rafa is on Chartrier or Lenglen, as long as he wins. :)

He was scheduled on Chatrier, but the weather Gods didn't agree. Now, the 3 French guys + Roger are those who are preferred, obviously.

He will play one match on Lenglen -- this one, the second round -- and the rest will be on Chartrier. In fact, his first round match was on Chartrier, thus already disproving your statement that "he plays every match on Lenglen."

They put Roger on Lenglen yesterday, too. As the TV commentators on ESPN put it, all of the top guys typically play one match on Lenglen early on because there are so many other matches they want to put on Chartrier.

Someone may have already mentioned this, but I just noticed that Klizan has never played any of the Top 4, until today.

^ interesting find. looking at the stats, i guess the first set was mainly about Rafa not being in the groove yet? he served at 58% in the first, but then upped it into the eighties(!) in set 2 and 3.

Gasquet through in a hurry. he'll face Davydenko - that could be a fun match, if Kolya still has something left in the tank.

Janowicz through in 4 sets, books his 3rd round, as he did at the AO. Good job.

Ryan is gotta to be kicking himself for squandering that lead.. he is not too big on heart and guts. imo

Congrats to Isner.. However I think Haas has too much of a clay court game for him but who knows Isner plays well on the dirt

Harrison should be thrashed. Very disappointing result from him. Again.

Its nice to see Roger playing so smoothly and relaxed. Haven't seen him like this since last year.

RE: Roland Garros Order Of Play - Day 6

Nadal looked pretty shaky. The conditions didn't suit him as they were quite cool, but still. I've never felt that he's comfortable playing lefties, which is weird considering the great record he has against them. A lot of the things he has to do against lefties are unnatural to him, like varying his serve placement, use his inside out forehand as a rally shot (and thus struggling for depth since he usually hits it with angles), etc... Most striking to me is the fact that for whatever reason, his cross court forehand loses a lot of depth against lefties, and he hits it a bit too angled, trying a bit too hard to take them out of position (thus opening up the DTL forehand for his opponent). I feel in large part, his great record against lefties is due to him just being generally a better player (obvious, I know), and the fact that there are hardly any elite left handed players outside of Nadal himself (the best lefty he's played is Verdacso or something... which says a lot).

I would rather give credit to isner to come back from 0-2 for the first time to win it in 5, adjusting his approach

RE: Roland Garros Order Of Play - Day 6

I think its worth giving a nod to Nikolay Davydenko who is making it to the 3R in a Slam for the first time in almost two years (2011 US Open). From 2005-2009 Davydenko was a fixture in the top 10 and was in the mix with Nalbandian and Roddick as the primary challengers for Federer and Nadal. He's finished each of the last two years in the 40s, but its nice to see him continue on, presumably for love of the game and not because he thinks he has a realistic chance of winning anything other than a minor tournament (his last tournament title was Munich, an ATP 250, in 2010; before that he won the World Tour Finals in 2009 - his last big hurrah).
