For the first time in the history of the tournament,no French singles players (men or woman) have reached the 3rd round at Roland Garros.
That record only held up due to volume & the sheer # of top French players! France (& Spain for that matter) has been loaded on both sides; men & women in the top 100 for as long as I can remember! Their problem has been having someone in the top 3 or 4! Players took turns near the top like Leconte, Noah, & Tsonga while the rest were sprinkled all over #10-100!For the first time in the history of the tournament,no French singles players (men or woman) have reached the 3rd round at Roland Garros.
This lines up with the general feeling that they are all worse than ever. Hopefully some better days ahead. For the first time in the history of the tournament,no French singles players (men or woman) have reached the 3rd round at Roland Garros.

The depth of the French men at present is practically bare, same with the women. No one on the horizen. That record only held up due to volume & the sheer # of top French players! But in fairness, you were the first to call Daniil for next new #1, so he's just telling you how it could happen. That's a lot of ifs! If I won the lottery, I'd be rich!
I thought there were some good young French men out there. The depth of the French men at present is practically bare, same with the women. No one on the horizen.
I guess it goes in cycles, though the training through the FF is of a very high standard.
And he did equal Djokovic's total of games in the final last year. So folks could stop ragging on him, I guess.Yeah he's exceeded my (generous I thought) prediction of 6 games.
Well they have not caught my eye as yet,I think the Italian young men at present are the one's to watch. Also I will throw in 2 young men from SpainI thought there were some good young French men out there.
Italian men's tennis has come up in a huge way, yes. And the demise of the Spanish Armada was too early predicted, as they have good ones coming up, too. I won't stake a claim for French youngsters, I just thought there were a few out there, like Humbert and Moutet.Well they have not caught my eye as yet,I think the Italian young men at present are the one's to watch. Also I will throw in 2 young men from Spain
If any poster can bring up a good young French player,I will be happy to watch with interest.Hugo Gaston is a good young doubles player from France, let us see if he can achieve in singles
Okay I will watch with more interest with Humbert and Moutet.Tsonga,Simon,Monfils.Gasquet have held the France torch for sometime, given their ages, also injuries, especially Tsonga with his back,it is up to the younger French players to step up.Italian men's tennis has come up in a huge way, yes. I just don’t get the scheduling. The one match where fans are not allowed, it’s Rafa’s birthday AND the last Frenchman ( Gasquet) standing. The players must be anxious to get the fans back.
It is a curfew in Paris, fans are allowed at night matches after the 9th JuneI just don’t get the scheduling. The one match where fans are not allowed, it’s Rafa’s birthday AND the last Frenchman ( Gasquet) standing.
Herbert is pretty good and was unlucky to draw Sinner in the first round. Gave him a very tough match too. More of a doubles player but tricky opponent.I thought there were some good young French men out there.
