French fans cheering on Lenglen with 2 French players battle it out
Gasquet v Rinerknech 1 set all
I have always had a soft spot for Gasquet so I am hoping he can win this match

The Danish Angel won the match on a bad day.
Better to win ugly, I"m just saying..
The Kid has no more pressure-less days, the expectations for this French Open are squarely on his shoulder. While I'm sure his team tries to deflate it, the opened draw with Meddie gone looms. BTW, is he part Mexican? :face-with-tears-of-joy: The full name on the roster ,.Holger Vitus Nødskov Rune, goodness I half expected them to add "De Hidalgo" at the end...

Nødskov is his fathers last name and Rune his mothers. It's quite common to have two first names in Denmark and I think he might have been named after his grandfathers.

Alas Ritchie who was down 1-5 in the 4th set and fought back to take it to a TB and lost
In the battle of the 2 French players Rinderknech wins 64 64 26 76(4) over Gasquet
I wonder if we will see Gasquet playing at RG next year? he is in the twilight of his career, though seeing Olympics are also at RG next year, it could be his last.

Medvedev,
" I'm gonna be thinking about this match for a week, but for the moment I don't see anything wrong I did"
"The match today, in my opinion, I played well. I was trying. I didn't feel like before - sometimes I was feeling "Wow, I really cannot do anything ( on clay)".

Oooofff! Meddy just had one of those first rounds. It has to suck coming off the heel of his first and biggest title on clay. It reminds me of the time Serena was red hot on clay and lost in the first round as well at RG.
Well he was his own worst enemy today in this match, wrong shot selections, didnt play to the windy conditions and lost focus when it mattered.

Don’t know if it was mentioned here but Novak made a political statement after his win yesterday. I think this was an unwise move on his part..

Novak Djokovic Sends Message About Kosovo After Win
Honestly I wish tennis players would just stick to their profession and stay clear of making political remarks!
There is enough friction at present with Russian, players, Ukraine players on the WTA, no handshakes and having their say to the media why they dislike Russian players

I can understand them not shaking hands with Russian and Belorussian players, even though it’s not the players fault. I thought the French crowd were despicable to Marta Kostyuk. But didn’t daddy Djoker say something ridiculous recently regarding the war? Novak will be dragged down by that stupid man some day, could be soon…

The only thing I can remember is what Novak's father was at the AO when he was photograph with Putin fans

Do you think the officials at RG will take this further and say something to Novak? though I guess by now they would have rapped him over the knuckles lol!

No, but I think he’ll be bothered by the press. It’s a distraction he doesn’t need, and he’s brought it on himself..

LaMonf is out of gas.. I didnt realize until today that Gael doesnt utilize the slice backhand as much as he should be a veteran player. Its the best stroke in tennis to allow you to "buy time during the rallies" and to reset the point if needed.

Now he just got rejuvenated as if he had one of Novak's" goodie"bottles in his bag.
