French Open Order of Play for Round 1 Day 2 - Monday, May 23, 2022
When you said he was done ? and probably wont be the player he once was before he sustained this injury, I kind of read between the lines and he might as well retire lol!. Quite frankly to me he wasnt the same player after he won the USO, he said after he won, it took a lot out of him mentally and if you look at his results, which speak for themselves, he wasn't.Who said anything about retirement? I just said he prob. won't "get back" to his past hts. of success! It's not simple to come back from that injury!
NOW, I want some of his happy juice because it clearly transfers you to an alternate reality.Rafa's next opponent will be WC Corentin Moutet who defeated Wawrinka in 4 sets
BTW Mats Medicated Wilander said that Rafa is 4th or 5th favorite to win RG...Novak is the favorite...suprised not
Dennis can’t seem to build on any victories, beating Rafa on slow red clay in Rome did absolutely nothing for him.Really Denis? Out in straights! Inexcusable...
the absolute GOAT of tennis Class Jo Wilfred Tsonga.. job well done .. your presence on the tennis courts will be missed! MERCI JO!What a sad way to end a career, Tsonga was playing such a good match.
Or we could look at the other (brighter) side: Holger Rune is taking a big step forward over the last month or two and we might be on the verge of having a second breakout teenage star.Really Denis? Out in straights! Inexcusable...
His game seems best suited for grass with that lefty serve.Hard to be disappointed by Shapo at this point. While he's a player that seems like he "should" be better, he's also kind of already shown us who he is - he hasn't won a title since 2019 and has been stuck in the 11-20 range for about four years now. That sort of stagnation doesn't generally imply that he's going to get much better.
I don't disagree with any of that, but in straight sets and still w/ so many wild errors. It's unfathomable. So you are likely correct in your prognosis. If he doesn't get more disciplined, he's looking at tier 2 or even tier 3 results.Or we could look at the other (brighter) side: Holger Rune is taking a big step forward over the last month or two and we might be on the verge of having a second breakout teenage star.

Of course he's still relatively young (23) that he could take another step forward. But I think his upside is more of a Rublev/Hurkacz/Berretini second tier type, rather than the potential top five player he looked like he could become half a decade ago.
Yep. He might also have a Monfils-esque (Monfilsian?) career - if not the same in details, somewhat similar in terms of being an erratic talent who has periods where it looks like he's on the verge of joining the elite, but never quite gets there.I don't disagree with any of that, but in straight sets and still w/ so many wild errors. It's unfathomable. So you are likely correct in your prognosis. If he doesn't get more disciplined, he's looking at tier 2 or even tier 3 results.
Remember at Wimbledon last year he played Novak in the s/finals.His game seems best suited for grass with that lefty serve.
Musetti vs Tsitsipas is for me most awaited R1 match. Both play their best tennis on clay. It is also a clash of one-handed backhands. Hope Musetti can rise up to occasion and make it interesting even though he was underperforming this clay season. He has to be motivated to play on PC again against a top player.
