Mildly surprised. I thought Edmund would take that one.
I did, too. Some very interesting matches right out of the gate tomorrow: Wawrinka v. Kyrgios, then Djokovic v. Chung. I picked Kyrgios to win, but it was really a coin-flip. And, although Chung is the guy that took Novak out of the AO this year, he's been mostly injured since, so I expect Novak to exact revenge.

The upset wins of Milos and Polansky are primarily attributable to home soil boost.

Yeah no way Chung is beating Novak again here.

Stick a fork in Ferrer at the top level.

‘Huge upset’? Lol whoever controls that twitter account hasn’t watched tennis since 2015.

I would genuinely be interested in knowing why Ferrer is still playing at this level. The other day I noticed Tommy Robredo is still touring the challenger tour.

While Ferrer's going down to a qualifier in the 1st round, Nole's, who's a Wimbledon Champion has got Chung today! Outrageous! The tourney couldn't elevate him 1 seed so he'd have an 8th seed bye? Shameful! :nono:  :cuckoo:

All players not named Federer who are 35+ and still playing are playing at a much lower level.
It is not just Ferrer who is a shadow of his old version.

Agreed about Polanski. Milos played how he used to 2 years ago, a true top 10 level. Very encouraging.

I see McDonald in the draw as LL.
Who was the player to drop out?

Isn’t Murray the one who dropped out?
In the mean time I checked the list and figured Bautista-Agut is the one who dropped out "after" the event started.

Kyrgios loses, Stan gets it done:
1-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Good grief, so little time lately and I choose to watch Kyrgios x Wawrinka, hardly will be able to see anything else until the weekend.

What a freaking horrible match. Wawrinka is fat and lazy, made some amateur errors like constantly being late to set up his shots (on slow balls). Kyrgios served great as usual, ok, but goes for the kill in all shots and misses 90% of them. I've seen amateur matches technically better. If I was there I would boo them non-stop and ask for a refund.

Wouldn't that have been manipulating the draw?

I guess Chung pulled out? I see Novak is playing Basic. Just DF'd to drop serve and Basic forces the TB.

He needs the extra work! Not to be greedy, but looking forward to ATP Masters in Cincy to see if he can close that circle of owning all 9 Masters; 8 of the 9 twice! Doubt a lot of his records will be broken along with Fedal's! They'll probably own it all for the next 100 years! This has been a historic era that I didn't think could surpass the 90's! They've blown Sampras, Agassi, Becker, Wilander, and Edberg out of the water! Sampras will grab onto a little notoriety by holding #1 ranking 6 YE's, owning 7 Wimbledons, & breaking amatuer rec. majors of Emerson at 13; ending career with 14 @ '02 USO! Every time you think "they're done," they perform a 2nd and 3rd act! Roger went 5 years before extending his major's lead and holding 20! Nadal's been breaking down since '09, but he keeps coming back, holding the #1 ranking again! Most had to think Nole had not only lost "his edge," but didn't seem to care! Early round losses to players way outside the top echelon almost sealed his fate concerning the end of his career! Taking this past Wimbledon; I just can't express the words and had no real hope of such a thing! Fedalovic are just a "Big 3" for the ages and they're still at it with plenty more paragraphs to write on the BIO's!

Yes, Chung bailed out citing injury.
Novak won, but needs to improve his game. Looked rusty.
