I think Brad Gilbert said that Cirstea is not coachable. Harsh words, but he must have had his reasons for the statement. She has low tennis IQ.

She suffers from a well known phenomena. For example, its very common with amateur swimmers who are afraid to try and improve their swim technique. These swimmers need to "break their mold" and their frame of mind, but are too afraid that a change will collapse everything in their swim.
She is just too afraid to change her style and she doesnt believe in herself. She needs to be forced to do that. Maybe the new rankings (85) will force her to start a radical change in her style.

The crazy thing is that she is a good student who had straight 'A"s at school. She lacks self belief imo.

That is why I said she has low tennis IQ. I never commented on her regular IQ. For some people, unfortunately, there is no correlation between the two. My 13 year old is taking college classes, but cannot keep track of tennis score while playing matches.

Incidentally, Score at Hand works very well. It is the best product for players who can't remember the score. Scoreband, the watch, is nothing but a piece of junk.

Ok, back to talking about the tournament. Let's see if Petra can continue her good play. She has historically done poorly in North America. Will Pova gets revenge on Kerber for the Wimby loss? Vika is lucky to get Aga in her quarter. It seems Aga has peaked. Her slight frame can't hold up to the physicality of being on tour. Will Bouchard bounce back after being decimated in the Wimby final? Looking forward to getting a few of these questions answered.

Yes, you made good questions. My only difference of opinion is about Aga. I think she just doesnt fight enough and she just gets through the routine these days. I think its a mental weakness, not a physical weakness but she always wakes up and bounces back :)
She kicked Simona's butt in IW after her painful lose to Simona in Doha. Aga remembers ;)

Within the next hour games will begin in Montreal. There seems to be tv from two courts. If your local tv possibillities doesn't show the matches try our usual dracula stream:

http://www.drakulastream.eu/tennis-live-streaming-video.html

It's pizzaarmy to start with ;)

If you live in UK BTSPORT will show the matches. Use the WTA TV button on WTA's homepage to see if there's a channel close to you which is broadcasting. BTSPORT always show in very good quality which you can see if you take the recommended stream on drakulastream.

Holiday Monday here, after being tennis's out from two days of coverage in Vancouver, I guess I can settle down and watch more on TSN today, to the chagrin of my wife! Thanks for the draw hoergren. In reference to Sorana, this tournament could really decide what happens for the remainder of her tennis year. Lots of points to secure and with all the seemingly endless troubles she has had this campaign, if she fails again miserably she really will have to look inside herself and ponder what approach she needs to take to bring her game back to last year's level. Who would want to take the time to help her if she is not coachable??:puzzled

Mean bam bam machine in action right now. Lisicki really destroying Errani right now 61 first set :clap
And then when you say this - she's playing with her head under her arm - well that's Lisicki and why it's Errani in the top of the rankings. We'll see howit goes - but strange to watch the different Lisicki. She survived her 2nd set hick ups and defeated Errani. ANd with Vinci's loss there was not much positive for the pizzaarmy.

Nice to se this:

No one is watching the young upstart Canadian take it to Cibby on centre court? :wow: One set a piece now. Heading to the decider.

She looks much younger than 17 and she is already 5.11. I like the fact that she is so excited...

She's come back to earth now, trailing 0-5 in the decider

Sloane looked good tonight. Dismissed crowd favorite Wozniak in straights. Maybe Hogstedt is a better fit for her.

A match against Alize today should be a good way to see how Vika is progressing in her return to play. Azarenka is 3-0 lifetime against Alize.

She got to the finals at Eastbourne with Flavia the first time they played together, so this could be a good pairing.

Petko is out? She was supposed to play Giorgi today, but the live scoreboard has Vesnina playing Giorgi instead.

Petko called in sick, she was replaced by Elena as the #16 seed.
I am waiting to see what the issue is...
Nara pulled out due to Hip injury, I hope she is OK, I like her quite a bit now that I saw her play in person, she was replaced by Karolina Pliskova.

Venus is playing Pavly as I write this. Tied at 1 set a piece.
