So this one, unlike yesterday, went according to the script.
So much about Ferrer fading fast:rolleyes:

Ferrer had a bit of luck here, but give it a couple of months and we'll revisit the idea.:snicker

Heck, let's see what happens next week.;)

Lucky here, lucky in Doha, blah, blah....
You know, those who are at the finish line and cross it make their luck, others were not there.

I agree with Billie re: not panicking yet.

Losing the non-slam clay events has proven to be meaningless, as Nadal lost THREE clay events last year and still only dropped TWO sets at Roland Garros :snicker

I'd only panic if Nadal is ever down 2 sets to 1 versus Djokovic at Roland Garros (that has never happened).

So we have a long wait to find out if Nadal is in trouble :laydownlaughing

Maybe not so long as you seem to think.

Rafa did much better in all of his comebacks except this year. And since Rafa has shown the worst signs of decline so far, I frankly wouldn't be laughing out loud if I were you.:cover

All good things come to an end eventually, I think the saying says.:exclamation:

Zeballos was ranked 73 when he beat Nadal on clay in 2013 :laydownlaughing
clearly Nadal's worst form on clay ever.

And not a comeback year but 2014, Nadal faced matchpoint in the Rio semi-final versus Andujar the world #40 :lolz: and ended up losing at Monte Carlo (QF), Barcelona (QF) and Rome on the way to Roland Garros title #9.

So I suspect we'll have to await a few more years to see Nadal struggle at Roland Garros.

Heck, Nadal had HAND cramps in the 4th set of last year's RG final...... and still victorious over his supposedly toughest rival.

What is interesting is that Ferrer collects the titles Rafa had last year. Is Madrid next title for David?;)

Ferrer won this year so far titles in Doha and Rio. These both were won by Rafa last year in 2014. Rafa won his 3rd title last year in Madrid. Got it?

And by the way, after I read about Rafa being pissed on Bernardes because calling against him the time violation, I am happy Carlos did that.
All the umpires should strictly applying the rule then perhaps Rafa will stop acting like a spoiled child.
He does not have separate rules than the other players.

Did you count how long really Rafa took to serve?

Bernardes did, and his call is the one that matters.

Congratulations to David Ferrer!

How do you know that Bernardes did correctly? Rafa usually never complain about it (Novak has complained more) but that umpire has done before more than one mistake.....and Rafa knows him perfectly well, much better than us

The chair umpire has a stopwatch.

Rafa does not have a stopwatch. Or do you think besides fixing his hair, touching his face and digging out his shorts that Rafa has a stopwatch in there to check too?

I am a Rafa fan,he is a serial offender when it comes to the time limit on serves
There is a rule and it has to be abide by all players even Rafa.

The problem is the chair umpires are not being penalized for their mistakes.
It seems unfair that the players are penalized when the umpires are not.

Nothing more egregious than an "out call" by a chair umpire, overruling the initial line call only to be challenged by the player in turn finding they were wrong in stepping in in the first place! Penalties for that should be public! It happens more than people think! :nono :puzzled

^ Also the commentators should point out when the chair umpire has given a time violation that was incorrect.
Even if the commentators weren't using a stop-watch when it happened they can replay the incident and time it and tell the viewer.
Or they can tell the viewers "He was called for a time violation but the replay shows the ball boy was too slow" or "He was called for a time violation but the replay shows he was held up by the other player" or "He was called for a time violation but the replay shows he was within the time limit".

And every time a chair umpire allows the time limit to extend past 25 seconds, he should be tasered? And the player forfeits a point??

I never have said that Rafa sometimes has not deserved to get a time violation but this umpire has made some mistakes before and probably the other day too
Fixing his hair, touching his face and digging out his shorts takes three seconds but this takes a lot longer:
