Venus has 4 gold medals and Flipkens will never have a medal at this event.Brazil is a very racist place and was not surprised by the crowd s behavior..they did a lot of booing during Serena vs Wozniacki exho and Caro had the audacity to body shame Serena during that match and they cheered for Wozniacki...even Roger cheered when Serena was being body shamed in Brazil...

Fiero, just for me. Explain why you have such a disdain for the Williams sisters, especially Venus..please be honest because I am trying to understand.

I have disdain for most American players going back to Evert, Jaeger, Austin, Connors, McEnroe, & Agassi! There's this sense of entitlement, "playing the victim" when famous and rich, and media coverage usually going overboard! As much as the Williams' are lauded, I think they woefully underachieved; outside interests, their own apathy, and injury due to inconsistent training up until now! It used to be the topic of conversation how Serena would play herself into shape at the Aussie Open every year coming in there overweight and not sharp! I've just never seen a #1 player with the up and downs of a so called "GOAT!" I could write a book over reasons I wish they'd all go away! :nono  :cover

Before Venus played yesterday I thought she'd lose. Said ok I guess I was wrong when she went 4-1 in set 3. Never bothered watching the rest 'cos it was a crap error filled match but, while I wasn't expecting her to lose from 4-1 up in the 3rd, I still got the prediction right anyway :p

...and? What's your point? That's how most people show their preferences; "it's personal!" As much as I touted Sampras as the GOAT 10 years ago, even he showed some hypocrisy and of being a prima donna I can do without! Give me the boring and dull like a Borg or Djokovic anytime who are gentlemen and always praise their competition without the rolling of the eyes! :puzzled :nono

Venus and Serena are high achievers whether you like them or not..Venus has 4 gold medals and how many do the so called tennis greats have a gold medal.I am sure they would have excelled in other arenas because of their strong will and hardwork.I was sad to see Vee lose but she has done well considering her condition with Sjogren....at least they dont have to resort to meldonium.

even Sampras?

He was pretty much a good guy overall, but he had his moments; DC and of his being #1 without a major at the time! To explain myself, he was asked to play against Russia, kept saying "NO" until the last day when he decided he did want to perform! Then there was that period when the next generation was lobbying for McEnroe to be the DC captain and as soon as he took the job, they stopped playing! John quit after only 6 months or so! Pete's hypocrisy comes into play when he added his voice to the snide remarks of Courier and Agassi about Muster being #1 and getting special dispensation to play only clay events due to his knee injury and surgeries! I seem to remember at least Muster owned a FO title unlike Pete who would acquire the top ranking just before Wimbledon in '93 and he hadn't won a slam since USO of '90! I guess you had to be there! :lolz:  :cover

I doubt anyone had ever heard of that condition before she said she had it. Wouldn't be too sure she's clean either given the inhaler and what people can put in those now with a TUE. Xenon/argon gas are undetectable but give a massive cardio and energy boost. She lost a set badly in Wimbledon, went off with her inhaler in her hand for a toilet break, which shouldn't be allowed, and came back and destroyed her opponent next set. Incidentally, I doubt any sport except tennis would allow someone use an inhaler mid match when so many illegal substances could be in it.

It's easy to overlook things as a fan but there are a lot of dodgy things not adding up there and it's not like Sharapova is the only cheat out there.

Serena wins opening match in straight sets against Daria Gavrilova. Potential next opponent is Alice Cornet, who could be very dangerous.
