Wow. Good job Meelosh. I gotta go out. They'll just hold serve for the next 8 games. I'll see you guys then.

i thought you are not a fan of that type of game, boom.....hit or miss....it's this kind of hitting that upset Rafa so many times here previously. somehow you are just happy to see Fed lose no matter what, even if it's not at expense of your player.

like i said your dislike of Fed is very clear, which is why you called out him gaming even when he took a break at end of a set. in comparison, you didn't call out on Rafa gaming when he took time out before his opponent served for a match. you said you have no such 'dislike', well that's just not honest, and also your bias (or lack of fairness) is too obvious.

Congrats to Milos for his first final, the way he hang in there and his composure. Even though I do agree that Roger gave the 4th away, it wasn't like he was serving for the set there. He was serving to get it to a TB. It was not given that he was going to win that TB. Milos has a good TB record.
It did look like the end for Roger but I am tired of counting him out and him coming back and proving me wrong, so...

people were talking about the break point chances he got there, a break there would mean that he would get to serve for the match.

it is probably end of an era, as Fed won a match he should've lost against Cilic while let one slip he was in control of. It's even more weird that he doesn't look that upset, especially given the way he lost it.

Yeah this wasn't the same as getting a little tight in a final vs. a great like Djokovic. This was really gagging badly against a much lesser player in the semifinal at what figured to be his last solid chance at #18. I know he's surprised a lot before but this does feel like the end. I can't picture him winning this next year when he is going on 36 years old and realistically his chances at this USO are minimal too. AO and RG are simply not possibilities for him.

it appears that he is able to maintain his intensity, when he needed to. it is also very age-related, as it's a type of mental burn out. usually it's cumulative, younger players have bigger tank and can take it for longer but i suspect that it had to do with how spent he was after escaping the cilic match.

Federer may have not shown how upset he was on court (other than in his lackluster play and dispirited demeanor in the 5th) after giving away the 4th set from 40-0 after having many chances to break during the set, but in his press conference, he said he was very angry with himself and sad about it and you could see and hear it. Basically he said it should have never happened and doesn't know why it did. He said he had been the better player in the entire set till that point, and that he had to at least make it go to the tiebreaker, and if Milos had won it there, fine. But to lose it like he did was not explainable. I think most would agree.

He also said that fall he had was different than he ever had before when he fell prone to the turf in the 5th, and he was concerned about it. He walked it off during the match, but he thought he would have to wait and see what it looks like in the morning and the next few days. He was clearly disappointed because he felt so close to winning it and didn't, but then on reflection he felt he overachieved considering how he felt coming into the tournament where he wasn't sure if he was match fit enough. At the very end of the English part of the press conference one could see and hear he was upset about not winning the match when he said how it turned very fast.

In any case, once Raonic got the gift, he ran with it. He played quite well in the 5th set, given the new lease on life, looked much freer on his serve and once he broke Federer he held serve rather easily.

So congratulations to Milos and his fans, good luck in the final, and commiserations to Roger and his fans.

Respectfully,

good post. Federer in fact did overachieve considering how outplayed he was against Cilic, also considering his age and current condition. Looking at it this way, it can be a positive and maybe he thought about it this way so was not as upset as he otherwise could've been. and you can't just be disappointed at the one that slipped away while forget one that you so narrowly escaped from.

Mac should be congratulated for making a difference already, Raonic was very very tough mentally. Mac said himself that his focus was on the 'attitude', and given the short amount of time was never gonna change much tennis-wise, it definitely shows something between the ears.
Same as Lendl, Becker, Chang and other old timers, who all had positive effects on their pupils mentality.

Makes me laugh everytime seomone says coaches don't matter because they are not the ones playing.

Career as a major contender is finished. That's the final piece of evidence.

Thank you Roger Federer for the glory years... but it's now officially over.
I do think you're right. I'm sorry for the Federer fans today. It did feel very close, once again.

I'm not. I don't dislike Federer, I'd just prefer that he not get another major. Rooting for Raonic comes with a certain amount of humor, which I know Britbox gets and I hope Twisted does. You, unfortunately, don't seem to have a sense of humor. I'll address the rest on the other thread.

Well Raonic is making big news here in Canada. I was told at work when he won, even though she couldn't pronounce his last name. I am surprised they didn't show the replay of the match tonight. But Canadians love their sportsmen and women. This can only be good for tennis fans in the country. Even though we already have great coverage of the sport on TV, it might get even better.

no dislike? nobody else questions his sportsmanship as often as you do, even when he got sportsmanship award so many times.

I don't dislike Federer. I don't know how to explain that to you. As to his sportsmanship, I mostly am just contrasting how his fans see him, and how they see everyone else. It's not about Roger nearly as often as it's about his fans.

In recent years I've warmed to Roger. There's a lot about his game I can appreciate. Nadal fans have no reason to dislike Roger...we just argue with his fans, because they hate Rafa so much. And I root against him to win more Majors. I think that's straightforward.

root against him to win more majors? Rafa didn't even play so it's not at his expense, unless you are more twisted than i thought...

about sportsmanship, his fellow players know more than fans here do it's not even a comparison. what you were saying about him 'gaming' is unfounded and clear sign of bias, as it's based on nothing.

That's my point...all notions of gaming are based on nothing.

on court coaching is not based on nothing, neither is MTO before your opponent serves for the match. it may be different from time violations and some players are fast/slow, but rules are rules otherwise where do you draw the line?

&why would you root against Fed when Rafa isn't even playing?
