Good point. Might be good for Nole to take some rest. Yet the YE no 1 is an important achievement too.

We might see a game of chicken between Nadal and Novak to see who can play the least to clinch it. Novak will need to do the work tho, so I think he should at least play Shanghai. If he wins, he could skip Paris.
I thought the bolded above was an excellent phrase and to the point. I did read that Novak is not ruling out taking a WC to Basel/Vienna.

After Shanghai, it is really Novak's to lose. Current race points:

1. Rafa 7480
2. Novak 7445
3. Del Potro 5300
4. Federer 5160
5. Zverev 4770

Novak's only 35 points behind. He probably doesn't need it, but he could easily win either Vienna or Basel, then go into Paris with a commanding 465 point lead. And is Rafa even healthy enough to play in Paris? Either way, I'd be very surprised if Novak isn't YE1.

With Del Potro's knee injury, I think Roger and Sascha should finish 3-4 in some order.

Novak should play only Paris and London. If he plays like this week, there is no question he will reclaim the top spot.

My first YE# predictions at Shanghai's conclusion
1. Novak
2. Rafa
3. Federer
4. Zverev
5. Del Potro

1-2 are very sure thing, you can almost bet your life on it.
3-4 are very likely (almost sure).
5 is likely.
Further # are largely unpredictable at this point (too close to call).

Sampras will lose his last great record.
I can see Djokovic getting to 7 or 8 of these.Federer and Nadal with their shortened schedules will have no shot at it future.Only a young ATG can stop Djokovic from usurping this record now.

Not that this is any concrete proof but,
There was news that he will play that Abu dhabi exo but still not CONFIRMED for that-

Nah, I don't think so. Let's look at it logically... JMDP has had his best year for something like five years. The Tower is not done yet.

A few years earlier mainly... More like 2004-2008 kind of era. What boards did you used to post on?

I joined tennis.com in 2008 so I only caught the end of those wars. That was one lively group :D

You wonder if Tennis.com regretted the decision to shut those boards. That commenting system they brought in after was pretty lame. It must have had an impact on traffic and Tennis Magazine who run it were in pretty dire financial straits from what I heard. Maybe they got their shit together with new investors.

Yeah, I was surprised they shut down. So was it just for financial reasons?

ESPN used to have no-holds-barred sports forums that they got rid of a long time ago, almost certainly due to the conversations often being inappropriate. I was on that tennis forum for a few years and it was nuts, most Nadal fans were reasonable and us Fed's were crazy. Except they had some crazy racist Romanian professor who was a Nadal nut as well as some guy who thought he was a cat.

Now we can't even comment on ESPN on the individual games until they are over. I comment on some NFL games, mostly bitching about the Packers shortcomings :)

I've been a member of TTW since 2010.But I have some clue about the message board fanwars you're talking about.
I've heard from many people that the weak era theories were started by some angry Sampras fans on tennis.com-I've never had an account on it though.

I think the forum had become an embarrassment when it got noticed by the powers that be. It was unmoderated for a long time. They installed the owners wife as the Admin and half the board got banned overnight.

I remember the ESPN tennis board, I think @Fiero425 posted on there... I went to fetch some of them when it closed.

Yep, I remember Fiero. I forget who he was rooting for at the time. My name was Zugga on there, remember me at all @Fiero425? There were some reasonable Nad fans there, mostly females of course. I'm guessing with Fiero he probably remembers more of them than I do. I remember Pamela and one other one, they caught a lot of shit for being Nadal fans and girls. Pamela was a babe too so that didn't help her any :lol6:
