It was nothing to do with this. The only time Azarenka broke into a jog all match was once after getting passed coming to the net. She was clearly under the weather. She displayed zero intensity from the start, no grunt, and was generally spent from the start. Venus acknowledged this after the match. Venus didn't even play well herself, was far better in R1.

"I didn't sleep at all last night," Azarenka said. "You can't play at 20 percent against one of the top players. I've been feeling bad for a couple of days and it just got worse today."

There is an article about this match that explains a little more:
http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/09/tokyo-v-williams-d-azarenka/49261/#.UkHT0oZPUoM

there is also this quote from the following article:
Azarenka talked about her physical condition afterwards in her post-match press conference.

"I haven't been feeling well the last few days and haven't been able to practice," Azarenka said. "It has been very frustrating. But I got out there for the people. Everyone was waiting a long time for this match, so there was no way I wasn't going to go out there. I appreciate people coming out and paying for the tickets - they should see the players play. And I tried my best. I did whatever I could do today

Does Vichka's early loss here give Serena the

year end # 1 ?

Someone told me that it would be almost

impossible for Aza to catch her if Ree played

China or the YEC. And as of now She is slated

to play both.

If she was ill Ozza, why did she play?

Because withdrawing would get her an even bigger fine than the last time she late withdrew and another zero pointer on her ranking. Plus illness isn't something that gets worse through playing, so there is a nothing to lose aspect.

Yes. WTA might wait until Beijing to confirm it though (theoretically Vika could take wildcards into other events then get it if Serena didn't play another match this season, but this won't happen).

Head to head doesn't mean anything when you haven't played for 3 and a half years.

Ozza, you do know that Venus 10x better player than Vikka ....right:puzzled. Don't try to make it sound like Venus only beat Vikka because she was getting hot flashes....rediculous.

Yes Venus the player who has one top 25 win all year before today is currently a better player than the world number 2 . What happened in the past is irrelevant to now. There is a reason Azarenka was an 86.96% favourite.

A win is a win and a loss is a loss. I don't use Venus' illness as an excuse when she plays period. If she is playing in a tournament, she is saying I feel healthy enough to compete. Same with Vika or Serena. I think we can all agree that Vika was out of sorts for whatever reason, but you can say that about a lot of players in tournaments. They have an opportunity to pull through despite their ailments. The one thing I have noticed and I hate as a Serena fan is when Serena loses fans make excuses like they feel they have to make an excuse for when she loses. Athletes lose all the time excuses aren't necessary. Like I said a win is a win and a loss is a loss, no excuses necessary. Vika didn't play well and Venus played decent that is how it goes sometimes.
