This is why Gael hurts me most of players I don't actually care about. What a waste of time this match has been?!

Total sports disaster averted. This match still hurts Roger's chances at this tournament though.

Thankfully Monfils doesn't play like the Seahawks!

Gael in full blown clown mode now.

Not completely directed at you, because you didn't start it, but that is unkind and unfair. Monfils has been working hard at being the player that people have looked for him to be, for a lot of this year, and for 2½ sets in this match he was…against Federer. He's not going to pull it off, but he put a lot of effort into it. And focus and heart. Give the guy his props.

I disagree. I think it's a good healthy dose of what could happen if he's not focused out of the gates. Maybe he needed a little wake-up call

maybe..maybe not. it wasnt a really long match and fed actually had to play a good opponent. so he might have worked the kinks out and play better

The good news for Roger is it has been a quick match, especially for five sets. It's about 3:15 right now. That could have been a straight set win.

Yup, definitely good! Might actually sharpen up for the matches ahead.

Suicide is never an option...not even a bad one... but coaching Monfils?? I'm sure he would drive anyone to self-destructive behavior.

Roger swing volleying from almost the baseline...

The look on Roger's face said that he was even annoyed that Monfils didn't take the golden opportunity given to him.

Fair enough…JLLB called the comeback when it was just a glimmer in the eye of the Fed fan.

I predicted a 6-2 set to Roger in the 5th and it's looking likely.

Moxie, he was not even trying the first two thirds of the fifth set. He should be fined. He did the same at RG against Murray. Clown is kind. Utter a-hole is more appropriate... imo.

Fine then. There were plenty of other naysayers on here all dragging their chin around "woe is me". Why are they playing the Empire Strikes Back? LOL

5 sets is never good for someone Roger's age. He worked links out a long time ago, all about going out there and playing well from the start especially at his age.
