Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum, I am hoping that we can exchange ideas for the enhancement of knowledge as time goes on. I am already very impressed with Ozza and the confidence he brings across in his knowledge of questions asked. I really should have a nice time here. I have noticed that I have not really come across a proper discussion on potential matches and possible upsets and winners. Is it just something you do not do on here? Also I read in a post Ozza saying that top ten players are only allowed to enter 2 International tournaments. It compels me to seek clarification on the definition of an international. Finally, I look back to the old days and never once saw players like Becker, Lendl etc default for any frivolous reason as is common today. today we see so many players default at 0-5 in the final set etc. Would this really be down to increased dubious betting patterns in our modern sports world? Does one really have to give a reason for defaulting? Recently Jankovic gave her reason as hips or whatever having already secured points in the previous tournament. Ozza, welcome on board!

Welcome jitemb, you are our 200th member. Hope you enjoy it here.

I noticed we had a 2ooth member last week ..then the total dipped below 200 again..what happened ??..did folk get deleted :huh:

No, as with most boards we get automated bot sign-ups. These are automated scripts that sign up and try and post crap links. I deleted some bot accounts each day, so it went hovering above and below 200. We're pretty clean at the moment - so all 200 should now be real humans.

laura robson hits a career low :speechless:

losing to a 42/43yr old who was playing before laura was even born, this is just so embarrassing.

Welcome!

1) Grand Slams --> 2000 points
2) Premier Mandatory--> 1000 points
3) Premier 5 --> 900 points
4) Premier --> 470 points
5) International --> 280 points
6) WTA 125(new) --> 160 points

Until last year, International level events were the lowest on WTA Calender before the introduction of WTA 125s, one had to play the ITF circuit to play lower events.
The Top 10 are only to play 2 international events, they are encouraged to play premier level events.

But this week, there is no premier level event!
Thanks for that brief insight. It was helpful.

I would not really look at it like that considering that Kimiko is not just any 43yr old. She is one of a kind who we are privileged to see break records and push on. Laura is not the first she has beaten and would certainly not be the last. It is now so common to see Kimiko beat a top 20 player that no one really raises an eyebrow these days. I was lucky to have 200 on Kimiko only after reading on this site that Laura took a wild card. That coupled with her last performance against Kerber, was enough to make me believe in a Date-Kruum victory. All that aside, Laura has been nothing special really.

Laura needs to improve her shaky serve a bit..esp her sometimes embarrassing process of aborting her serve motion owing to a dodgy toss-up

other minus points are 2nd serve (feeble), that a confidence thing too..she thinks "oh no I must just float this in and avoid a double fault", she needs to emprace her inner Sampras and go for some 2nd serve aces, (JUST For a change of mindset for a short while if nothing else.)

powerful forehand and shot placement don't make up for poor lateral movement and the crisp accurate winners are undone be wild UFE, also less twitter/facebook/social meeja, and train harder, more chasing chickens rocky balboa style. (not literally :snigger)

so laura at 19yrs has plenty to improve on and get past the 30-40 rank mark in the future..and date-crumm may be amazing (and she is) but she is still 43.

They are both hard working tennis players, I appreciate them both. I wish Laura would be as consistant as Kimiko is, that should come in due time.

Sabine pulled out of Osaka.

I had heard Sabine injured her back in her R1 match vs Scheepers. The fact sheet says left hip injury though.

Next week Errani, Kvitova, Jankovic and Makarova have all withdrawn from Moscow. I imagine Kerber will follow suit if she confirms her qualification for Istanbul this week.

Watched Bencic last night. She's one to watch in the future, I think. Hopefully, she will continue improving.

Bouchard ground strokes are more solid...Keys has a good serve that breaks down under pressure.Genie is stronger and is hungry for success.....that hunger is her asset and will help her go far.Madison seems like she is going through the motions...just like Scone:cry

Madison Keys reached the first WTA semifinal of her career on Friday with an impressive 63 61 win over Zheng Jie at the HP Open.

A disciplined performance saw Zheng swatted aside in little over an hour on a gusty afternoon in Osaka.

Keys has been in fine form in her opening three matches - she is yet to drop a set - but admits her game is still a work in progress. "I've played a lot of matches this year and I try to take something from each one - not just wins, but also losses. I'm just trying to get better each time and always trying to find new things to work on after each match."
