It is amazing that Gulbis is never beaten in finals.

I did not see this match. But, it looks like a bad omen for Tsonga. After being
in top 8 for a few years, Tsonga got thrown out of top 8. I thought perhaps it
is because he missed a reasonable chunk of it due to injury. It is not clear
whether he will make it to top 8 at this rate. Moreover, if he does not make
that will be two years in a row and may signify a fading to oblivion.

Losing to Gulbis when he is on fire is not an omen for Tsonga's future.

I think that's fair to say. And I think it says something about Gulbis that he hasn't lost a final. He hasn't been in a lot, but when the head is there, the game is top drawer. We'll see if he's really recommitted himself, or this is just another brief upswing. He suggests he's gotten serious in interviews.

Very impressed with Ernie G today. He clipped tsonga's wing with tremendous play. Very precise and focused.

I think this is the first match I have seen him play with out a single moment of hysteronics, mumbling, complaining, or loss of concentration. Great effort. A scary talent, minus the funky forehand. Tsonga made a big mistake by playing the backhand too much.

Congrats to Ernie on his 5th career title. :clap Great week in France. He said he wants to be #1.

It is good that he wants to be #1. Perhaps, he should first set some
realistic goals, such as getting into top 16, top 10 or earning WTF berth etc.,
before he starts fantasizing about #1. His career high best ranking so far is 21.
Tomorrow, he goes up to #18, a career high for him.

If someone would have told me a Frenchman wasn't going to win this thing one week ago, I would have laughed and dismissed you on the spot.

Good stuff to Gulbis. He's actually played pretty well for, like, over a month now, without fading away or anything.

Let's hope he can adopt the same drive for IW and Miami and not get too... 'cocky', which is probably easy for somebody of Gulbis' status.
