Sincerely hope Gulbis wins. About time the guy shifted gears and started to win some titles although he's had a good week either way.

I am with you there, he is looking good so far this season, I think he will continue to improve his results.

I'll be hoping for Tsonga to win it. I can't warm up to Ernie, no matter how nice his game. Anyway, it wouldn't be bad to see Jo have a great season, either.

I can't see JWT losing the final...his record in France is excellent, and he played much better today.

Ernie dismissed with ease top seed Richie 6-3, 6-2, while Tsonga beat Struff in a tight one: 7-6, 7-5.
Tomorrow an important final, Tsonga to trepeat or Gulbis to make a big step forward.

Richie looked miserable today. Trying to hit backhands from every position in the court is getting to be a tired strategy.

Assuming my theory that only French guys are allowed to win this, JWT will take it.
Anyway, at least I am rooting for him. He had a bad year in 2013. I am hoping he
will perform better this year and make it to WTF. He should win this title to get
confidence back.

Why even say anything like that? Where does that come from?

Don't get so serious. It was supposed to be a funny remark considering
that most of the recent winners are French guys in this tourney. I am by no
way implying some sort of conspiracy of fixing here.

If you're trying to be funny, you might try an emoticon, to make it clear. It's not like you're the most ironic poster on this forum.

No all French final?

Now that's a surprise. Tsonga should take this with the home crowd and all.

He is right. JWT was 2 years in a row, at least a solid top 8 and was right up there ranked 5 before David Ferrer started his march upwards. For Joe, dropping to a 10 ranking means a bad year indeed.
And he has quite a gap to fill before getting anywhere close to the top 8 (more than 1500 points).

If Ernie stays calm, I think he will win, because Jo makes to many errors.

He's broken Jo in the 2nd.

Very good job by Ernesto.
7-6, 6-4.
He has now an impressive 5:0 in the finals.

Defeating back to back the bottom 2 guys in the top 10, he just demonstrated that he could be a legitimate top 10 in the future.
Go Ernie!

Didn't get to see this (forgot it was on tbh!) but absolutely delighted Gulbis won. Big Tsonga fan too but it's about time Gulbis showed up properly. Backing up successive good wins has been a problem for him since day one and he did great today. Saw the stats, 41 winners to 22 for Tsonga. That's unreal! Gulbis also has a very impressive 5-0 in finals record now and 7-0 if you count doubles. Hope he carries this great form to Indian Wells and Miami.

Edit: didn't see herios posted the 5-0 in finals comment before me  7-0 though with doubles counted also. Very impressive.

It is amazing that Gulbis is never beaten in finals.

I did not see this match. But, it looks like a bad omen for Tsonga. After being
in top 8 for a few years, Tsonga got thrown out of top 8. I thought perhaps it
is because he missed a reasonable chunk of it due to injury. It is not clear
whether he will make it to top 8 at this rate. Moreover, if he does not make
that will be two years in a row and may signify a fading to oblivion.

Losing to Gulbis when he is on fire is not an omen for Tsonga's future.
