I have to agree with Mark Petchey ( former tennis player and now commentator)

"There is no way Jannik Sinner dosent put in 100% tonight. Zero chance he want to be in 3-0 in H2H v Holger Rune in 2023, going into 2024.
Plus Darren Cahill has way too much respect for the game, it's history as does Jannik Sinner".

Sinner won’t tank, but he won’t play 100% all out especially after the 1st set. He does have an extra day off, but he will be smart to conserve some energy for the weekend. I would even say that Cahill will advise him to do that. One thing about Cahill is that he preaches about the process and long term goals. In this case, he will advise Sinner to be competitive in the 1st set and then start doing strategic energy conservation after that.

I suppose playing agressively to end the points quickly one way or another is a way to conserve energy while giving it your all. Guessing Cahill doesn’t want for Sinner to have a war of exhausting attrition with Holger.

Subconsciously knowing he is “in” may make Sinner lose a little sharpness for the match; if anything this past year has taught us is that most of these ATP top 50 players can beat each other on any given day with just a slight drop in focus/form by the higher ranked player.

Having said that, Holger Rune is a contemporary younger player that Sinner hasn’t beaten yet, so who knows how that factor is going to play out in the courts.

Another thing before this match starts, I have followed Jannik as a junior, it is not in his DNA to not give 100%
Cahill said what impressed him was Janniks work ethic both on and off the court, Cahill would not have decided to be on Sinner's coaching team, I can assure everyone, if Sinner wasnt a hard worker
I cannot see Cahill telling Jannik win the 1st and save your energy, for the rest of the match he has a day off tomorrow, Cahill first and foremost will be coaching Sinner in this match up against Rune
Cahill is a great tactical coach, as we saw in his match against Novak, he gave Sinner a great plan for the match, which he executed
You dont see a player taking the racquet out of Novaks hands that often?
Sinner Forza! ( apologies to Tossip and Nadalfan2013:)

Here's my issue with commenters they're so bias all due respect but Rune's ATP results are close to Sinner's if you compare their length of time on the tour. The TC guys are favoring Sinner but it's cool, it is what it is..

That is why I mute when watching a match:) I was having a 'senior moment' the other day and actually agreed twice with Jim Courier

I am way more surprised that Rune looks terrible so far…4-1 Sinner in the 1st set.

Does Rune know that he actually needs to win the match to qualify for the SF?!

Jajaja. It's funny you mentioned Jim Courier comments. My peeps in the Tampa Bay area said there's not a more friendlier tennis pro to them when he is visiting the local tournament there. Very accommodating they said Jim is. I don't have the heart to tell them that he is too annoying and anti Nadal for me jajaja

Sinner should save himself for the weekend and send the old goat back to Serbia or Monte Carlo.
