Rublev kept it together and got the W.
Congrats.

Tsitsi couldn't sustain his Mark Philippoussis programming past the first set.

Honestly, I can’t think of anyone who screams “spoiled brat!” as much as Stefanos.
Didn't watch any of it but I can't stand how he walks around with his head and nose up the air with an air of supposed superiority about him. Reminds me of Sharadopa with that silly, proud nose up in the air bs. Glad he lost.

What is it with Stefano's game . The young Greek has not been the same since he let Novak run him down at RG a few years ago..
Courier is on your side...he feels bad for Stefanos, because he says his family is hurting him. But he's a grownup, and he has the ability to ban them from the box.

You are becoming the GOAT of the Rafa Haters! jajajaj

Nadal's gamesmanship very early on as a punk back in '05 set the tone! I had the same problem w/ Agassi from day one! There was an attitude that offended and they weren't able to change me even as they've aged out! I wasn't one who'd of missed Rafa if he had quietly left the game in 2016! Fedal Redux in 2017 revitalized him into hanging in there! Now Novak's surrounded by so many rivals when I have to listen to BS about a weak era due to his unprecedented success over the last decade! Fedal being equated as such was nauseating then and it's still nauseating! If the era's so weak why isn't Nadal winning more w/ no Fed? The men's tour truly is blessed w/ a lot of talent! Fedalovic unfortunately overshadowed most of it making the tour their own private plaything for almost 20 years! END RANT! :astonished-face: :thinking-face::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

I give Fritz a tiny snowball's chance in Hell because of his 5-setter v. Novak at the AO in 2021, and Novak's having left a lot on the court today.

Btw, Novak did totally cop to the fact that he went for it because of the history between them.

In the 2nd, I'd say the surface doesn't suit Ruud, and Rublev should be riding a wave of confidence.

I've always liked Andrey Rublev and he's my top choice for most over-due to win a big title.

Random stat 1: He's the top ranked player not to appear in a GS semifinal, followed by Fritz, Rune, and Sinner.

Random stat 2: Only two players have won ATP 500s in each of the last three years: Nadal and Rublev. Rublev won 3 of 7 ATP 500s in 2020, one in 2021, and two in 2022.

Random stat 3: With 12 titles, Rublev has as many as Kei Nishikori, who has the most of any member of Lost Gen (counting Thiem as Next Gen); and one more than two-Slam winner, Patrick Rafter.

I dont mind Rubllev, though I find him too 'one dimensional' I feel his needs to add more variety into his game, maybe a transition game to the net, also volleys would help his game going forward, I take your point he is way over due to win a big title

As I said, Rublev's too much like a "David Ferrer" going into lockdown-mode & being a human backboard trying to take the cover off the ball!

Agree, Rublev is riding on a wave of confidence ....defeating Meddy and The Young Greek

This is a complete misreading of Rublev's game. He is nothing if not aggressive. He has two speeds: hit hard, and hit harder. A backboard he is not. He needs a second serve, for sure. And he could do with crafting a Plan B. But I would say that all he shares in common with Ferrer is a pugilist's mentality. Which is not a terrible thing to have in common with David Ferrer.

Sort of random stat that I can't quote: before the end of the match today, I heard the commie say that if Rublev came back to win the match, which he did, he'd be tied for the most wins on the year coming back from a set down. I don't even know how to google that.

But as to his 12 titles, as I mentioned to you on another thread, David Nalbandian only ever won 11 titles, and he's considered one of the great also-rans. (Great under-achiever, too, but you get the point.) And Rublev just turned 25.
