I love a topsy turvy.
The play was generally high standard, momentum swings.
Tsitsi winning 30 of 36 net attacks!

Meddy needs a rethink on return of serve position, deuce side esp.

Can go to bed happy at that match.

Come now. Pete would've never been in that situation. He was the master of closing time. Even an elderly Pete would have shut the door at 5-4
I was referring to Daniil being down 0-6 in the Tbr

Mektic/Pavic are looking really good. I can see them winning it.

I have no idea who they are! Doubles isn't featured like it used to! Top singles' players don't play much at all unlike McEnroe way back when! In my day, the doubles was almost as important! It was a little pocket money for players who weren't earning much in singles! You don't have memorable teams like the Gully's, Gottfried & Ramirez, Hewitt & McMillan, Stewart & McNair, & of course McEnroe & Fleming! The women were even more notable w/ BJK/Casal, Stove/Durr, Court/Wade, & Navratilova/Shriver! I do miss those days! :astonished-face: :fearful-face::thinking-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

We all knew. Meddy has been wobbly closing it out for at least the last few weeks. Dan Evans last month, Rub the other day and the Greek today. And then there was that bizarre match against Djoke where he retired after blazing the trails.
Boy, I watched the last set and a half. Meddie really fluffed his lines at the end there. He needs his head shrunk a bit.

I still don't know or watch much of it! The big question will be if Nadal plays his 3rd rubber? So often he bolts when knocked out giving Alt. a chance to play! It would be nice to see Rune play a little before the end of the season! Probably the most dangerous player not in there! :fearful-face: :thinking-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Has anyone watched doubles matches? There have been some good ones.
I watched the Special K's match they were down 1-5 in the super t/break came back and won against Dodig/Krajicek, good mental result for both the boys though it will be a harder match on Friday against Mektic/Pavis

Apart from the mental issues, Meddy has not been the same player for sometime, I have to agree with Kieren, not since the AO, I still think in ways he has not got over that match with Rafa, anyway I am not selling him for 2023, I feel he can find his game again, his game really shines on the HC, remember he is a new dad as well:)

A lot of commies have made much of the scars of Medvedev losing the AO from two sets up. I still think he can reset, but, boy, he's got work to do. I don't give any of them a pass for being a new dad. They're not breast-feeding.

Well it is still a new adjustment being a first time dad also traveling with youngsters around the world in tournaments, when they are not use to it, baby waking up crying in the night, does take adjustment, so I will give the new dads a brief pass:)
Agree he has work to do, his game, serve and return of serve, are not consistent as they used to be
The Young Greek was great at the net in the match, really taking Meddy out of his comfort zone at times in the match
The Young Greek apparently from what I read is employing more serve and volley tactics, maybe The Poo has some influence in that area.

Wow, this is pretty dismissive. Having been a new dad once upon a time, I can tell you that it is a HUGE mental and physical adjustment. No, we don't breast-feed, but we (some of us, at least) do participate in parenting, and we go through a lot of emotions, a shift in marriage, etc. Plus, Daniil is pretty young by today's standards to be a dad - just 26.

I'm not saying it is the main cause in his poor showing - I tend to agree with the narrative that he hasn't recovered from his loss at the AO - but fatherhood has to play a part, especially early on.

Absolutely. I know a bloke who’s an old fashioned dad, in the style of presumably his own dad, and he’s running into nervous breakdown territory when he has to do the school run. But he’s an exception, from what I can see. So many dads I know simply share the parenting with the mother, and vice versa, and some of them are at home all the time while the mother works. One good friend is looking after his two special needs kids after the wife unfortunately had a nervous breakdown of sorts, fell for a Nigerian “donation” scam, gave away lots of their money and possessions and then angrily left the family home. He’s a hero to me, when I see him with those kids. Endless patience, devotion, care. There’s still discrimination against fathers in the courts, when things go bad in a marriage, but fortunately he won his case.

I can only imagine that Dannii is going through a transition year where, at the end of 2021 things seemed relatively simple, geared around his constant rise to the top, then he was obviously shocked to the core by Rafa’s comeback. He was stunned in interviews after the match too, channeling his inner-Djokovic and whining about the fans not inflating his dinghy when the air flew out.

Then they have a child. Complete switcheroo for him. This time a blessing, but still, huge adjustments. I hope he comes back next year strong again. He seems the most likes of the older players (excluding Rafa and Novak) to be able to resist the rise of Charlie and Ruin and other hungry youngsters on the make…

Way too much drama in the Stefano/Medvedev match. Gotta say Tsitsipas is quite popular with the crowds here, and they have been solidly behind him.

ATP YE Torino is a great tennis venue simply because it’s all so easy. From the main train station which is of course in the city Centre with all the shops, cafes, restaurants, hotels, etc you get from the corner light rail #4 & voila, you’re at the Pala Alpitour in 7/8 stops. Same light rail back.

I say Next year let’s have a frontier tennis reunion here, did I mention their hot chocolate here is literally melted chocolate? :D

Oh the sweets and treats in Italy are beyond compare! We’re fortunate to live near an Italian owned caff in Wicklow and the cages there are almost too much. I make a fool of myself drooling in the window before I go in.

Sounds like you had a marvellous time - did you get tickets for many days?

Granollers/Zeballos have gone down in flames this year: 0-3 through the RR. Today they lost 6-0, 6-4 to Glasspool/Heliovaara.

The Rafa/Ruud match will begin soon. I don’t see Rafa winning this, but we know he’ll try. He always does.

More interesting will be FAA/Fritz later today, fighting to determine who advances to the SF. Their head-to-head is 1-0, with Fritz winning at the ATP Cup in January.
