Couldn't see any topics on this week's tournaments so I thought I'd start one.

In Nice we have Isner, Gulbis, Monfils, Simon, Tursunov, Mahut, Delbonis and Roger-Vasselin making up the seeds. Albert Montanes is defending champion and took a 6-1, 6-3 win over Matthew Ebden today to start his title defence. My pick for this tournament is Gilles Simon though, hopefully he can build on a very encouraging performance against Rafa in Rome.

Dusseldorf has a slightly weaker field with seeds Kohlschreiber, Granollers, Seppi, Sousa, Lu, Nieminen, Karlovic and Sijsling. Juan Monaco is defending champion and plays Benjamin Becker in the first round. Karlovic came through in a 3rd set tie break (surprise, surprise) yesterday. Not sure who I fancy for this one. I'd like to see Melzer continue his good form and Jiri Vesely put together a decent run because he's a promising young one.

Good win by Vesely today, over Sijsling: 7-6, 6-3.
He slipped out of the top 100 a few weeks ago, if he has a good run here he will be back.

Tomic lost again in the first round. Seriously what happened to him?

Delic beat Przysiezny 75 75 and Davydenko crushed Sela 63 61.

Berlocq won the first set against Benneteau 6-1, currently 3-3 in the second set.

Clay would have to be Tomic's worst surface,so I am not surprised he lost, even though he is going through a rough patch at the moment.

I was going to say something like you just posted, Klizan is a better clay court player than Tomic. IMO this is a normal outcome.

^ JLLB: I see your young Borna Coric lost in 3 to Leonardo Mayer in Nice. A good fight at least against an Argentine veteran on clay.

Thanks for putting up the thread, TF7. I'm just catching up with these tourneys. It's good to have a lost look at how some folks are playing just before RG.

What happened to Monfils? Monfils seems to have quit from Nice.

If it is due to injury and there is a possibility of missing RG, it is too bad. I like to
see his antics in RG.

If he has suddenly wised up and quitting in order to save himself for the RG or
not placying Nice so that he does not aggravate some injury, it is good.

Monfils is still bothered by his ankle, he came back to Switzerland to see his doctor and decide if he can play RG....it's touch and go for him
Querrey'll replace him in Nice

Yup...

Thiem lost in three to Gilles Simon, but Vesely has made the quarters in Dusseldorf after beating Davydenko, leaving us with quarter finals of

Isner v Delbonis
Simon v Berlocq
Mayer v Montanes
Tursunov v Gulbis

in Nice, and

Kohlschreiber v Delic
Seppi v Istomin
Vesely v Melzer
Karlovic v Monaco

in Dusseldorf.

Vesely and Melzer will be a particularly interesting one.
