Speaking of Sunshine....How the heck did she move up to No8

in the rankings?...something wrong wit da computer?

So is the WTA rankings system. It's based on the actual last 52 weeks and "best" 16 tournaments - well that would be ideal but 8 tournaments has to count (slams + 4 mandatory). That's why Caroline can stay in the top 10 as she's got a lousy 2012 with 5 point in US Open and Wimbledon. But after US Open she can loose it again if she doesn't manage as well as last year - where she won in Moscau and Seoul. You can follow the development in Notes & netcords on WTA's homepage - here is a link to the newest:

Notes & netcords

I can tell you that the US open is interesting because that tournament is 1 of 8 mandatory tournaments (slams + 4 mandatory events) which counts with the points you get. Here is a list of what each player in the top 10 will loose:

Serena 2000
Vika 1400
Masha 900
Aga 280
Errani 900
Li 160
Marion 500
Caro 5
Petra 280
Kerber 280

That's called to defend the points. That's the only thing I think could be made better, as there's no bonus for winning the same tournament back to back. Hope you get a little idea of how the points system is built up, and believe me it's complicated:(

By the way New Haven Register is making articles about the games in New Haven and here's Caro's match:

Caro's match

Thanks hoergren!

The news of the day was not only the 3 retirements or Klara's come from behind but something else that didn't make the highlights or even the news.
That's the advantage of having a correspondent on the spot.

So I will give you the story of the day but you have to read what wasn't the story of the day first!

38a15d9761880f1d9720a5dd2db7cf17193bae2_r.jpg

The story of the day wasn't the fact that when "Sunshine" was suppose to come onto the court, it started raining, thus "Tennis Frontier Correspondent" had to leave on his 5.5 hour journey back home.

2ae1599a688903165862ff77473ecb2649e0c89_r.jpg

The story of the day wasn't the two hour grinder between Makarova and Wozniak, that match ended in a breaker, boy was it heartbreaking for The Canadian, she was playing so great...

The Story of the day was not Sloane's easy win, or her rather large entourage of guests, coach(that shouted "lets go" twice every game), supporters or the long line of young fans lining up both sides of the court waiting for her autograph.

It definitely wasn't Sabine's autograph session that had a loooong line.

6da15a9d6680001ae9eb278aefd5880b75a8270_r.jpg

Or the fact that a shy Petra cancelled her "announced" practice session on Sunday only to sneak in on Tuseday without fanfare(this story may not entirely be true!).

The STORY of the day was the fact that Aggie Radwanska showed up at the Connecticut Tennis Center for practices, she showed up late morning and practiced for about 2 hours, the story continued with her sister's sudden withdrawl from the tourny due to viral illness.

So there you have it.

Kui, you and I should hangout on Sunday. I'm in Jersey and thinking of going to the tourney, if there are tickets left.
Calvy,
The New Haven event ends on Saturday. I think there are still tickets available for the final, follow this link:
http://www.newhavenopen.com/TicketsAndTravel/daily_tickets/?intloc=headernavsub

I only attended the first 2 days, that was sesssion 1 which was Sunday(all matches), then there were 2 sessions on Monday, session 2 was day session and session 3 was the night session as Hoergren showed us the ad for it(which was a bust!).

If you are referring to the US Open opening(is it?) on Sunday, then you have me thinking...
I was thinking about doing a 1 day coverage of US Open!

Question about New Haven

Was New Haven once Pen Piolet? I told my sister that they were two different tournaments, but she's arguing with me that they just changed the name.

A match where Caroline looked to be in control. Second set she felt bad and had the doctor on court. Surviving an unstable period end ending the mach ok. 30 centigrades and no shadows and humid, not the best conditions. Seems there is some sort of viral illness cirkulating in New Haven according to Eurosports commentators. Well hope she'll be all right tomorrow. Congrats with the win. Carlsberg in the cooler.:)

RE: Question about New Haven

Special. New Haven is where the tournament is located so it's technically always been that. But for many years, Pilot Pen was the primary sponsor of the tournament so it was called Pilot Pen.

Thanks - no still 17 hours left of the day - so room for a lot of cheerful things - just pressed the button when it struck midnight in Denmark - so Americans in e.g. New Haven still have almost 23 hours ;)

Maybe and idea to have a thread called members happy days. Then you could post if you have a jubilee, getting married, won a million etc.
