in the rankings?...something wrong wit da computer?
So is the WTA rankings system. It's based on the actual last 52 weeks and "best" 16 tournaments - well that would be ideal but 8 tournaments has to count (slams + 4 mandatory). That's why Caroline can stay in the top 10 as she's got a lousy 2012 with 5 point in US Open and Wimbledon. But after US Open she can loose it again if she doesn't manage as well as last year - where she won in Moscau and Seoul. You can follow the development in Notes & netcords on WTA's homepage - here is a link to the newest:

I can tell you that the US open is interesting because that tournament is 1 of 8 mandatory tournaments (slams + 4 mandatory events) which counts with the points you get. Here is a list of what each player in the top 10 will loose:
Serena 2000
Vika 1400
Masha 900
Aga 280
Errani 900
Li 160
Marion 500
Caro 5
Petra 280
Kerber 280
That's called to defend the points. That's the only thing I think could be made better, as there's no bonus for winning the same tournament back to back. Hope you get a little idea of how the points system is built up, and believe me it's complicated
By the way New Haven Register is making articles about the games in New Haven and here's Caro's match:

Thanks hoergren!
