ye..total mess. for some reason they got fixated on playing the whole of whatever match in conditions they started in unless a change is ok with both players..on sat djoko said roof closed please.

its the same with the 11pm finish under roof..the way they carry on its as if thermonuclear war will break out with the local council if any match sneaks past 11pm.

still,,we got the f,o chatrier court roof to enjoy first anyway.
At least we won't have to have a match lit by no more than the scoreboard anymore...or hopefully, like Monfils v. Fognini 2010.

I'll give it to the Rafa fans! They got hosed since Isner/Anderson went on forever and into the night! Rafa's match didn't start until late under the roof so it was to Nole's advantage to vote keeping it shut the next day

Look, Anderson and Isner went on and on in the 5th set and now the rules about 5th set has changed.

Just like that the rule about maintaining same conditions has changed.

So, we need to accept both with equanimity. One cannot change the rules in the middle of the tournament. No collusion. No obstruction. Everything is fair.

Where really they should have used the roof was in the AO 2018 when was so hot that some women players almost fainted, that was embarrassing!

Collusion? Obstruction? What the hell are you on about? Who even said that? Now you sound like the Cheetoh-in-Chief. :lulz2:

Rafa's match didn't start until late under the roof so it was to Nole's advantage to vote keeping it shut the next day! I've seen one player screwed over the rules with the roof before! I have faint memory of Hingis in an AO final against Capriati in 2002 and the players were given the option to close the roof due to the heat! Jennifer knowing her stamina was better nixed idea to shut it down to air condition the place and give away that advantage to a kid! Everyone's working the system! :yesyes:  :banghead: :cuckoo:   :ptennis:

Rafa fans just complain because he can't play worth shit indoors. It made sense for the match to start indoors and if anything we could point to the ridiculous curfew as the reason it had to be played over 2 days. I kind of cringe when I hear Federer fans bring up darkness in 2008 and this roofgate is far worse. The carpet was rolled out for Nadal to win the event last year, dream weather for his grinding game, total cupcake draw until the QF, and a Djokovic very far from his best as his only real threat.

The complaint is that it was a stupid rule and it got changed, so I think we're vindicated there. Believe me, I bemoan the lost opportunity for Rafa, but it's not like he wasn't close. He got further than Roger at that Wimbledon.

And if they got rid of the archaic curfew crap then the rule in question wouldn't have mattered. The match would have started and finished indoors that night.

Maybe they think Nole needed the rest! It was crucial he win the 1st set after being down and out since 2016! Eeeking out that 3rd set before calling it a night helped as well! It was fortuitous it was resumed and finished under the roof as Rafa truly does suck on it with no YEC titles! Another deficit in his resume! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:

In which case I think Rafa had a better than half chance of winning, based on fitness. As I said earlier, I think one of the things that favored an relatively unfit Djokovic was getting to start again after an overnight intermission. The argument about the curfew is a different question, and I'll let you take the ball on that.

I think you proved my point that if they could have played it in one go, Rafa would more likely have won, roof on or not. The rest is your usual off-topic randomness.

Djoker looked fit enough after the 3 sets. He would have had momentum going into the 4th if they had kept playing. Anyways it worked out for the good guys in the end. That topspin monger won 2 more Wimbledon's than he should have

Changed your tune? Even you're on record as saying that Ralph should have won that match. Fitness, form, circumstances, whatever. He wasn't the best man in that match.

He should have won the way it played out as Djokovic was worse the 2nd day than the first one. Can't say what would've happened if they kept playing the 1st day. And aren't you one who always says the player who won is the better player? Roger coughed away a lot more matches against Nadal and Djoker than vice versa

No one can say how things might have otherwise happened. I'm just saying that you, of all people, thought Rafa should have won that match. I'll be happy enough to live with that from you. There are painful losses, but you tend to think that there are more from Roger, just because you basically don't think he should ever lose, at all. That's the part of Fed fandom that I think borders on the delusional. He's generally lost matches he deserved to lose. He's not a god. He's a tennis player...just a really good one.

Why are Nadal fans so bothered about the roof being closed when that match restarted? Honestly, it makes them look desperate for a Nadal win at Wimbledon.
It's not about being bother but rather about the game of tennis being a fair weather sport..if it was Roger facing Anderson under a close roof when it's sunny and not a threat of heavy rain clouds..you or your cosignee would whine ..it's strange you say Rafa fans are desperate for a win at Wimbledon but nothing when Darth carries on about the texture of a blade of grass.

Federer does have far more matches where he was match point up and lost, than Djoker or Nadal. That is a fact, nothing to do with being a fan of anyone. His relative weakness (compared to other aspects of his) in closing out matches is quite known, and it definitely means he is no god...……..which you don't have to repeat needlessly.

You don't see Federer or any other group of fans complain about indoors vs outdoors mainly because it doesn't matter as much as it does to Nadal. He's garbage indoors so you guys whine anytime he plays indoors due to rain or other things.

Nadal playing under a roof in an outdoor tournament has been pretty rare, so it's not like it comes up often. A-P isn't wrong, though. You have never stopped complaining about the texture of the grass and the slowing of the surfaces, so it's not like you don't whine about the unfairnesses to Roger...rather a lot!

Oh I will admit I do whine about it and it's a problem that has only gotten worse. Some fans actually appreciate court diversity and enjoy fast surfaces and get annoyed that Wimbledon has changed so much. It's a little different than Nadal fans complaining about a match being played indoors due to weather and/or darkness.

No, it's not really that different. It's whining because we each feel our favorite underprivileged by circumstances, if you like. I'm only pointing out that that has rarely happened to Rafa, (roof closed for weather/darkness,) on the one side, and yet you blame a lot of Roger's losses on the homogenization of surfaces. Not that they've really changed during his tennis career. Whereas the addition of roofs is new. And I notice that you had nothing to say when JLLB pointed out that the rule about opening the roof in good weather was changed. So it turns out we were justified in complaining that that was a stupid rule. The roof thing is a small feature, rather new, and we even got proven right, on one issue. The slowing of surfaces is a much larger issue, but it doesn't mean that you don't over-whinge, even beyond that.
