Nobody is perfect and if we start to check the behavior of every single player when they were younger......no one is free of sin. And not, we don't see him like a god as some Roger's fans are seeing his idol, we can see his flaws (he has) but also his strengths which are more than the flaws. Some of them are learning with the age, others never can't do it or they don't want

I am a newbie here and had intended my comment for a Rafa fan who I am familiar with. I am still learning how this reply gizmo works.

I was talking about a different fan site I was on. I made my comment which was reasonable considering other fans' comments bashing other players, etc. If you are suggesting that I "check the behavior of every single player when they were young" I feel that as very unfair, you not knowing the totality of what was being said.

Of course no one is perfect; that is what I was trying to convey to my fellow Rafa fans on a different site. I don't know about Federer fans because I have no contact with them. I've always liked JMDP but sadly he was so badly injured that he may not climb back to where he once was.

The shot clock is not for the main draw, only the qualifying matches. Likewise the bs on court coaching will be qualifying only.

I don't really like the idea of a shot clock, just a more consistent approach to the rules and enforcing them, but I hope to heaven they don't adopt on-court coaching. And I think the WTA should abandon it.

What years were you on tennis.com? I chatted with Federberg a bit about this, seemed he was there before me. I was on from about 2012 (I know this because I was on a great Nadal fan blog that kind of died out, in the disaster year of 2011) till this spring, when they destroyed their comments section by switching the platform to FB.
That place was a madhouse--antagonistic, hilarious, sometimes brilliant, sometimes idiotic, constantly off topic, but for anyone who could appreciate a wild array of characters and dialogue (literature is my primary interest) a goldmine. I had a big love/hate thing with that site.

And yes, I got the sense you were something of a "unit" it had that feel, it felt more civilized, and more welcoming than some others I tried.
We'll see how it goes! I want to avoid fighting. I like joking around and being able to share quirky observations about players, the game, analyze matches etc.
It was good to char during Cincy, especially at the end. I was over on the Nadal fan site in the beginning of Cincy, but it's just too idiotic. I can't hack it.
I don't do well with stupidity.
I do see an element of that here too, though small, and I gather it's not your core "unit."
A bunch of the last diehards from tennis.com have their own disqus chat--I know them all, too well, I even met one in the flesh and a couple offsite through email. They consider themselves highly civilized. I consider them ....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz also kind of reptilian.
I can't remember exactly the year that the tennis.com forums fell apart, (perhaps @britbox can remember,) but you may well have been on after the administrators and editors took over, and the only conversations happened attached to journalists' pieces. The sidebar forums were closed. We are the last vestige of what was a forum there, and we've tried to keep the community together. This is about our fourth version of a web name, but we are a lot of the same people. I can't promise that we won't jar at each other, or sometimes make stupid comments, but I think we also have a good sense of humor here, a reasonable discourse, and occasionally even good tennis talk. Yours, in that vein, is very welcome. We do feel that we are a community, and that's why so many of us have worked hard to keep it together.

100% agree on both counts. The WTA on court coaching belittles the game of tennis. They should be able to think for themselves or they should choose another job imo. Figure these things out with their coaches out of competition and in practice. That's fine. But not during a match.

Tennis.com forums died toward the end of 2012 and quite a few of us moved to Tennis Digital, which didn't last long before it died too.

Even with the shot clock, the discretion of the umpire is not taken away completely. It is the umpire who decides when to start the shot clock (and can use judgement here based on crowd noise, length of the previous rally etc). But once (s)he starts the shot clock, the umpire cannot exercise discretion anymore and it is rigid after that.

The biggest Nadal fan who's been around for the longest time and who's still not burnt out mourning the smallest losses of Rafa and bitching about Roger and his fans is Mimi but she posts only in the Old School thread. Apart from her there are Moxie and Carol but they are very nice and don't say nasty things.... I'm a big Roger hater and i say the nastiest things about him from time to time but tbh i'm burnt out both fanboying Rafa and hating Rogi... but I still consider myself a Nadal fan.... Oh, and Betty is also a Nadal fan but she also loves Andy and she's rooting a lot for Rogi too so she's not really like the rest of us...

@brokenshoelace @the AntiPusher @shawnbm @rafanoy1992 @MikeOne - other Nadal fans who have been around a long time.

According to TennisWorld shot clock will be used during the "junior event and the collegiate events" if that is what you mean by qualifying. I thought the qualies wete for those who didn't make it into the main draw because of their rank.

Enough of this foolishness.. Its the return of service position that consistently put Rafa in a detriment..Rafa is too damn old and slow to play that far behind the baseline on the return of service. Yeah..it worked for him on clay because the slower surface allows him to be to camp out and strike the ball to his liking but not on hardcourts. It costs him at the Australian Open because he never gave was able to get into Roger's service game unless Roger was off with his serve. What puzzles and battles me to near madness is even when he stands that far back his returns are barely passed the service box lines.. this is totally unacceptable.. Hell, he would've been for lack of a better word "served" to hire Agassi than Novak. Agassi is half as strong as Rafa but probably still can return the ball better than Rafa can today. I think its may be his return of serve grip that may be too extreme, he needs to make adjustments to be more mid range or towards the EAST. Look at Roger, he blocks these lesser serving clowns back with ease because he refuses to surrender excessive space beyond the baseline. I really feels this isn't Toni, Carlos or Frankie R's technical flaw but the stubborn bull from Mallorca. No coach could be so derelict in their technical teaching tactics..

Question to Fed fans...You all have to be laughing your asses off every time you see Nadal trying to return serve from almost six feet beyond the baseline. Its the most ludicrous tactic in all of sports.. I liken it to the Seattle Seahawks trying to pass the ball on the half yard line in the Super Bowl a few years ago.

Roger has taken advantage of Rafa the past few years because of this.. Mueller did too, good Grief Rafa..wake up

Rafa , needs to stay close to the baseline to make his opponents feel the pressure otherwise the Pouille, F3 and Krygios will continue to defeat him on the hardcourts.

If not, Federer will win his 3rd grand slam of the year.

I agree with Rafa has played a lot worse than before the clay season and awful after RG, he will have to change that game if he wants to do something good in the USO otherwise he will be in Mallorca too soon

CRAPOLA!
Just found out I read a "leaked" report in May of the Rafa statue to be created honoring Rafa's LA DÉCIMA at Roland-Garos. Accordingly, the search is on for an artist to create the statue, according to Guidicelli.

Uh? they were talking about it but not confirmed like now. Barcelona court is the one which has his name
Yes, Pista Rafa Nadal. But there were articles in May about the statue to be created at Roland-Garros. I thought at the time it was a done deal and should have been finished already.
When I just read your announcement about the statue I went to check the date it was first announced. Someone spilled the beans in May. [Snowden? Assange?]

I can't stand Nadal but no way is he better than ever on clay this year. That's wrong on so many levels. His athleticism is clearly not like it was in his prime and his serving is weak. His best clay performance of all time imo was the 2010 Monte Carlo final against Verdasco. Obviously 2008 he was great too. He doesn't hit his forehand down the line anywhere near as well and the banana shots are much more scarce. Only thing I'd say has improved is his backhand. Also the short balls have been a problem on every surface since around 2009. It started around the time of the Soderling loss. If he plays anyone half way decent they'll gobble those up and smack them back with interest.

Why are you on this thread if you "...can't stand Nadal?"

I watched his FO final. He was magnificent.
