Nadal turns 28 at FO 14. How many more slams will he win?

It really is that simple. You are bandwagoning on a player who really isn't all that interesting and bashing Nadal in the dumbest ways possible.
Could you please shut up?

Haha. You joined this board on April 2013 and you claim to be on this board for years? Haha. What garbage!

While this board is new, Cali has followed us through our various iterations, so his claim to long-time opinion is valid. You, Stan, are maybe a "newbie" here, but you should appreciate there are members who come from a long association together. Since you're 'new,' you may take some time to get to know the players.

This is indeed an important question for Rafa in the GOAT debate.

Consider these daunting facts:

1. In the last 30 years only 15 of 121 GSs have been won by players aged 28 years or older.
2. Since 1984 only 4 players ie Agassi, Sampras, Lendl and Federer have been able to win more than.
1 after age 28.

My guesstimate is that Nadal probably only has at most 2 or 3 more GSs in him. Maybe that is why he was crying after his loss in the AO 2014 final. Nadal probably realizes that his chance to equal or beat Roger's slam record flew out the window last weekend.

I can assure you that I have been giving my opinions for a lot longer than both you and Cali. If all the newbies are supposed to shut up and our opinions are not valid, than why open this forum to new registrants? If I remember correctly, didn't Nehmeth join before you Moxie?

OK, so you do admit to being an old-timer. It does beg the question, however, why you haven't come on the ride with all of us…same user name, same history, which many members have done, across 3 forums, now. And however much you have been lurking, it doesn't give you any pride of place for seniority. As far as Tennis Frontier is concerned, you are a newbie. It would please us if you would try to work within the structure that makes this forum a congenial place.

I have been very congenial. Can you point out an instance where I have stepped out of line and asked another poster to shut up or insult another poster personally? If I have than please accept my sincerest apologies.

Well, after your less-than-stellar start with 3 trollish threads, you have, since, been the modicum of decorum, after a fashion. If you're willing to keep it that way, you're welcome to stay. You know what the perimeters are, since you've been around so long. Bottom line: be a contributor, not a troll. It's very simple.

ROFL, so he wins 2 more and gnaws one of them down by 0.4 of it's original size with all the biting. Nice :snigger

I was thinking that after he wins his 10th FO next year against Djokovic, the Serb gets so frustrated that he tries to snatch the trophy out of Nadal's hands, breaking it, and manages to flee the stadium (Becker in tow)--thus ending the Serb's run at winning the FO where he retires in shame, grows a beard, and opens a pot farm in Colorado.

But for the back going out on him, he may well have tied Sampras at 14 last Sunday. Pretty sure he will reach 14 at the French. I'd like to see him tie Fed wherever Fed ends his slam count. That will make the Sampras/Fed "goat debates" of 2008 look like tea time with a bunch of little girls and their dolls. :D

I think if they tie most will give the GOAT crown to Rafa, although I suppose there will always be the weeks at #1 to Roger's advantage.

For my part.. if they end up tied.. I would concede that Rafa is the better player. But I would still have to debate the issue of who was the greater player. Let me clarify.. I use "better" to capture factors relative to one another... H2H being the most significant issue, albeit not the only one. But "greater" I use to capture factors relating to records and achievements... 5 consecutives at (in my opinion) the two most important slams, time at number 1 etc..

But it would be close indeed. Not sure I would really want to participate in that discussion. I'm not much for backing down.. and I know others on this board are just as stubborn :lolz:

Interesting point. I would change it slightly and say that it seems clear that Rafa is overall the greater player - not only is he dominant over Roger, but he's been more dominant against his opponents than Roger has, especially vs. other elites - but at this point Roger still has the better career. In other words, his overall accomplishments are still head and shoulders above Rafa.

In other words, "greater player" and "better career" are not the same thing. Roger's career is still significantly better than Rafa's and may always be so, mainly because he was more consistent, struggled with less injury, and had that lovely six year peak (2004-09) that Rafa will never have. But Rafa is the superior player.

Interesting distinction. I'm sure that will be the point of debate, should they finish neck-and-neck. (Or perhaps, anyway.) Roger has records that Rafa will never touch.

It's clear that Nadal needs to defend RG this year to stay on pace. I think he's got a clear shot at 4 more titles, total. But the elusive 5th? Hard to say, especially as he wasn't able to get the 14th in Melbourne. I think he'll defend in Paris, but the next two years will tell a lot. He'll be much less likely than Roger to win one after two fallow years, IMO.
