Federer fans: how do you explain this one? Were it not for Federer's horrendous record on clay against Nadal, he could undoubtedly lay claim to being the greatest player of all time:
I'll take up the challenge regarding this specific match. I was actually there live, so I have a relatively unique insight. Roger was actually trying to come over his backhand more in this particular match. It was noticeable, and I recall talking about it with a few of the guys sitting near me. It turns out that this was one of the tactics that Higueras was trying to get Roger to implement. After the match I remember thinking it was pure insanity, but it's funny how with better technique and court positioning no doubt Higueras now considers his strategy vindicated. It was obvious Roger had no confidence in his ability to execute. There was absolutely no power coming off his topspin backhand and I don't recall any particular strategy with regards to direction. Clearly time, improved technique (I understand Edberg worked with Roger and showed him how to make his backhand more effective) has made this strategy lethal. But fair play to Higueras, he was spot on in terms of what shot Roger needed, not so good in constructing a plan for how it could be used. And certainly far too premature in terms of getting Roger to roll it out. That only tells half the story of course. Rafa was absolutely monstrously good in that final, heck the whole tournament. Bad luck for Roger to be facing the clay monster at his peak on the dirt. As for GOAThood? I can give you 20 reasons why I for one don't give a hoot about that...

Well you just saying this because nadal rolled over Federer and hate the fact nadal has owned Federer during he's career. Plus Nadal is the king of clay and one of the greatest of all time on hard courts 3 USO titles,AO title 8 masters on hard court.
Well on hard courts its 3rd of all the current players Federer, djokovic only one who have more slams on Surface. And the stats say top 10 of all time. Also won 2 Wimbledon titles which is top 20 and also if count all the surface points Nadal just ahead. Nadal a more complete playerThat's a nice resume on hard courts but he isn't even top 5 on the surface. And it must hurt that Roger has 11 majors, 21 MS titles and 6 YEC's. Not bad for the 4th best player ever
Well I take being the king of clay the hardest surface,Federer wins on all he easy ones and great on the other two

OK let's get clear I have a lot of respect for Federer hes one of the greats so with that said I I'm not the time only one who says that clay is the hardest surface a lot of ex pros say it is but at the end of the day its just my opinionHow is it harder? It's just more a war of attrition. If grass was so easy I'd say Nadal wouldn't have looked so atrocious there since turning 26. He's losing to scrubs even on the pathetic slowed-down grass.
look that was my bad I was wrong to put djokovic ahead of Federer I have fixed it up my new list has federer ahead of Djokovic. and yes Federer is a far better player than Djokovic And did go to far by calling Federer weak era king so I will not say that anymore. It's the most physical demanding of course, but that doesn't mean it's the hardest. Just means you have to work longer to win.
And yeah you clearly have a lot of respect for Federer, weak era king who you ranked below Djokovic despite an 8 slam gap. Tons of respect
