Carol, I can't believe you're actually trash-talking given Rafa's state of affairs.

[Well, it's been poor so far but if there is one thing I've learned over the years is to never write Nadal off. Not until his left arm falls off at least!

Those years were a long time ago.
Now he is for the money, milking it while he can.

Corretja Sees Changes In Nadal's Style Of Play

"Former Spanish great Alex Corretja, a keen tennis observer, sees something disturbingly different in the slumping game of compatriot Rafael Nadal. The two-time Roland Garros finalist in the 1990s told Radio Marca that Nadal seems to be anxious over his shots - something that was not even remotely a problem before for the winner of 14 grand slam events."

Hail Corretja. What a genius! Maybe Carol might believe him instead of Federer fans and everyone else though.

IIRC, Corretja pulled a "Nalbandian" and upset Sampras in 5 grueling sets to win his lone YEC! :clap  :dodgy:

No idea but I was just extracting the urine (taking the p1$$) that he must be some genius to work out Nadal is not playing well. I mean give the man a f*****g cookie! :cover

I dunno, was that not a three set semi he beat Pete in, and then he beat Moyà from two sets down in the final? Lemme check! Yeah, he beat Pete 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, then Moyà, 3-6, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-5 in a match that I consider to be an even greater upset, given how Pete struggled to finish 1998. He was so knackered at the end of it that he skipped Oz in 1999, citing fatigue. That's wear and tear, people! That's how the game grinds down even short point specialists like Pete.

And ye wonder why Rafa looks jaded... :nono

IIRC, Pete had to make some adjustments because of some health issues! It seemed to be some kind of "tired blood" thing having to do with him being of Greek ancestry! It's a wonder he was as successful as he was! It's well known how Nole turned things around getting himself diagnosed with health issues having to do with his system and breathing problems! ;-)

- Update: The 5 set match I was thinking of was their USO contest where Pete was puking his guts out but won! :ras:

A classic. Saved match points in the fifth, was leaning on his racket between points, put on a drip after the match. Corretja was great that day too, but Pete was the ultimate... :clap

This is exactly what I said about Nadal. He is tight so he is not getting good extension on his strokes, causing shots to land short. Loss of confidence is very difficult to address. It leads to losses which leads to less confidence which leads to more losses, and so forth. This is probably due to advancing age. So many players experienced anxiety creeping into their game as they got older.

I can't help you if you're blind and neither can Corretja. It doesn't take a genius to work out why he's no longer playing well.

That's it. Anybody who thinks this is just a technical or physical issue hasn't being paying attention. As players get older, they become more fearful. Navratilova set me wise to this decades ago. And if Rafa can break through the confidence issue, everything in his game will improve.

But that's a big "if" at this stage...

It's not because of Fear but a lack of confidence. Rafa doesn't have his quickness, speed , or his killer fh. Until he regains confidence in those 3 parts of his game, he may continue to struggle, IMO
Lack of confidence=Fear, and cause fear.

A supremely confident player has no fear.

Now all of sudden 10sfan you say it's a lack of confidence because it's due to Rafa's age

You will find that as more players, experts and tennis writers weigh in and suggest that Rafa has a huge confidence issue at the moment, that posters who originally said it was all down to age and mere mechanical decline will change their tune and suddenly become experts in why lack of confidence is affecting him on court... :popcorn

Yes Sir. We have got more posters who has become Rafa experts while they continue to be his pundits.

We all know the posters who attacked Carol as soon as dhe mentioned confidence, and now we see one above agreeing with Corretja. :cover

Fact is, things are tied together, the technical, emotional, mental, etc, but a great technique is useless if you've lost your nerve...

Yep, there are many experts around here, they know exactly why Rafa is playing bad and it seems they are enjoying a lot with it. I can't imagine how upset they would be if in a couple of months he would start to play well and getting his CONFIDENCE back.....:cover:speechless::mad:
