Coco relies too much on her defensive game, she is too tentative, not sure when to go on the attack, her FH wing just gets attacked over and over again, just easy points for her opponents, the thing is she is a good athlete and for the life of me I do not understand why is is 'late on her fhand wing' then she just swipes at the ball., a experienced coach "can' fix that.
Great points @MargaretMcAleer . Coco lacks confidence when it comes to striking the ball..She doesnt put ENOUGH pressure on her opponents. Yes , she has a big serve at times but it's not consistent and all her opponents have to do is weather the brief 'storm" with her. Again , her game needs a total reboot,.

Garcia has the game, see her results when she cut apron strings with her dad as her coach which was her long term coach, yes she does have it, now back with her coach who took her to have a good summer last year and she won the finals of the WTA last year
I suggest Gauff does the same thing with her father, as Kskate said today and I agree Coco has gone backwards in her game this year, she needs a experienced coach, she is getting hit off the court with big hitters, she just relies on her defensive game, Badosa hit her off the court today in her match, giving Coco a bagel in the 2nd set.
Or was Caroline's 2022 season an outlier, and her 2023 results are more in line with the rest of her career? If Caroline has 'it', then why doesn't she have a slam final at almost age 30?

It's possible that Caroline gets a lucky break and win a slam, but I'm not holding my breath at this point. At Caroline's age, she is what she is. I'm taking my chances on Coco winning slams in the next 10+ years than Caroline winning 'maybe one' in the next 2-3.

It's very early, but Bernarda Pera fended off 3 BPs by Iga Swiatek, then broke her at love. Just 2-1 in the first, but it raises the eyebrow.

Dont hold your breath then for Garcia,, in regards to Coco she is not winning GS until she fixes her current game and fixes that weak fhand, all the players target it, and cuts ties with her father and gets an experience coach for starters.

Jess Pegula (3) runner up last year in Madrid, continues to impress, winning in SS 64 76(2) against Bouzkova (29)
Pegula has made the round of 16 in Mardrid for the 3rd consecutive year

Iga Swiatek stays perfect on clay in 2023, defeating Bernarda Pera 63 62 to reach the round of 16
BTW that is Iga's 50th tour level win on clay, 50-7 overall on the surface., pretty remarkable.

In a tight match between Zheng v Alexandrova ( Zheng 1st set 75 and Alexandrova 64) going 3 sets, this is the last ladies match for the day.

Coco is too young to cut off her father. She is slumping and a lot of players have gone through the valley. She will get through the it all in the end.I think the doubles are draining her,and between her and Pegula she is not really benefiting. The media doesn't help when they constantly tell the other players to target her forehand.I don't want to pull the card because the media never highlight the other players weaknesses. This is giving me the negativity that Serena and Venus used to get.

Coco needs another coach, sorry her father is just not up to the task at present, or hire an experienced coach, which would be the main coach? apart from her fhand, she has become too tentative and relies too much on her defensive skills, her game has gone backwards, when it should be upwards, most players attack Coco's fhand they know it is her weak side, even Badosa said yesterday she knew to attack her fh wing, I understand players go through slumps at times, though she is too good of an athlete for starters, and with an experienced coach I feel the weaker parts of her game can be fixed.

I understand all that but she is still a teenager unlike Raducanu and Fernandez who have stagnated in a major way.I think the expectation on her is too high, she has done more than a lot of players in her age group and she has just parted with a coach.I wonder why they parted and I think this has affected her.Her father presence is needed because of the danger of exploitation.I think her father is there for moral support, and hopefully she will find an experienced mentor to direct her.I am hoping that she will get her mojo back as soon as possible because the sexy part of tennis has just started.

I remember saying to you earlier the expectation of Coco is too high, my opinion is when Serena retired, American media were looking for a new star,. I feel Coco is mature well beyond her years, talented and a good athlete, all players progress at their own pace, I understand that, though at her young age, she was already a standout, I agree having her father around is not a bad thing, though I feel if she is to go forwards in her game an experienced coach is needed.

Kudermetova defeats Kasatkina 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(2). With this result, Coco Gauff's world ranking will rise to #5.
