Yep, today I've read that too so we'll see what he can do tomorrow, if the foot bothers him too much maybe it would be better to do a walkover to avoid to get worse and then going to Roma to practice and to do a much better tournament because I don't see him playing well at all, today was really bad.
I really think Rafa has come to terms with his foot by now, he will always have good and not so good days,
Quite frankly his movement so far in these matches in Madrid have been good.
Rafa really needs 'match practice' at present.

Unfortunately, Andy Murray is unable to take to the Manolo Santana Stadium due to illness. Novak Djokovic gets a walkover to the next round.
Instead, Andrey Rublev and Daniel Evans will open the day's play on Centre Court

What's this BS? Murray looking to avoid a beatdown? Who knows, he might have had a chance if Novak could be kept out there long enough! Nyah!

OTOH, I’m thinking the more matchplay Rafa gets, the better. From what I understand too much time off doesn’t help the foot either, it’s all a matter of trying to best manage chronic pain.

Today's match vs baby Rafa is not important for the run to RG. Rafa's game looks great at times and the most important thing this week was to get some matches to be match tough in a few weeks. Madrid or Roma is not the goal.
I understand for Rafa the prime goal is RG....Rafa is still rusty and of course getting match play and getting his rhythm is the most important thing leading to RG

Rafa and his serve? DF and loses his serve
Even after a few games Rafa appears to have 'no legs' today

Understandable because he played an 3-hour match less than 24 hours ago.

The goal for Nadal today is to get out of this match healthy. No need to spend unnecessary energy today because he got the match intensity and practice yesterday.

Realize the previous match played in 3 hrs took a lot out of him, though he should have won in straight sets
Rafa also looks nervous to me.

If he is nervous, that’s a good sign meaning he is getting to the RG “level” he wants to achieve. Just needs to clean his game up at Rome.

The kid is clowning Nads out there. Unless he drinks some happy juice and finds his mojo, we’ll get to see Djoke vs the future tomorrow

Finally! I am very curious to see on how Alcaraz fares with Djokovic on Clay.
