^ Kinda related, kinda not…Robbie Ginepri (remember him?) got the WC to RG from the US.

For some weird reason, he plays well on red clay. He has gotten into the 4th rd of RG.

He also has an excellent record in Har Tru challengers.

He's finding his way back from injury. Says he'd considered retiring. Fight on, Robbie! Great job.

Isner and Thiem win thier 1st Rd matches.

Thiem was playing against Tursnov who lost his previous match elsewhere with
a scoreline of 6-0,6-0. Hence, I expected Thiem to win.

Talking of Americans in the draw, we should be happy that there is one in Madrid.
In Monte carlo, there were none.

Nando is playing really good tennis right now, leading 5-1 against Seppi. The problem is, with Nando, things can go south in the blink of an eye, no? I hope he keeps it up though. After that AO match with Rafa, I have always found myself rooting for the guy.

Verdasco wobbled a little at the end, but won in straights. His game is looking very nice. Also, young Thiem beat Tursonov, 4 & 2.

Good to see Isner win a match on clay but no one expects him to get far. Hard to believe you have to go all the way down to No. 66 to find the No. 2 American. When I started following tennis, seven of the Top Ten were Americans. America: the fallen Tennis Empire.

...and the sad thing about the whole situation is there is absolutely no one in sight that you can look at as the next American star.:(

So Roger gets Simon. Always hated that match-up, since day one in Toronto when Simon took Roger out.

Roger wins that, he gets the winner of Nando and Agut, who are both playing good.

Simon is another player who does not give you any rhythm. He would keep changing
the pace of the ball every 10 minutes or so (unlike Dog who keeps changing every shot).
This kind of fools people who are not used to it. But, Roger is fully aware of Simon's game
now and so will take care of him.

I am big fan Kohlschrbrier (among the players in his tier, whatever that is) and
am disappointed that he is having a bad year. He has not done well in any tourney
this year. Does anyone know whether he has any injury issues or anything like that?

Ya, I heard about it. That is not really a positive news for US. First of all it is not a
surprise. It is a WC that is given on an exchange basis between USTA and FTA.
So, that is bound to be won by an american. Only which one is the questions.
USTA decides it fairly by having a small tourney and letting the winner take the WC.

The fact that Ginepri wins such a tourney says that there are no promising
up and coming new players (young or old) for USA. Ginepri does not represent the
future of tennis in USA.

Dimitrov took out Busta in the late match. I caught most of it while BBQing and I have to say, Busta is going to be a really good player. But something impressed me about Dimitrov too. He is starting to figure out when to put the foot on the gas during a match...That is a trait that top guys have, sensing the rhythm of a match and playing accordingly. Dimitrov is getting there.

I watched some of that match, and agree on both players. Grigor played some fine clay-court tennis. Carreno Busta is the youngest (? or one of) player in the top 100, so he's got some maturing to do, but he's looking good. Pretty tall, too.

^ Phabio is 0-4 against D-Love. All were straight sets. Three of the phour were blowouts. Two of the three blowouts were on clay. I'll be surprised iph this one is any dipherent.
