Thiem must be thinking, "Back to the clay, just in the nick of time." Best play by him in ages to beat Gasquet in straights.

Lets see if he can win his next match, he just came from the clay remember? he has a long way to go, quite frankly I cannot see him getting back to his former level, at Estoril it was the first time in 7 months he managed to win back to back matches
BTW his next opponent is Rune

True...that was a stray comment. Didn't watch any tennis really, last week. Naw, I don't expect him to get past Rune, either, but he looked good today...for a change.

Agree he looked better, than previous matches, he also said he was going back to playing some challenger tournaments, to build his confidence etc, we shall see.

Andy Murray say he may skip the rest of the clay season after losing in his first round match to Alex de Minaur 61 63, he described it as 'awful', 'demoralising' and one of the worst of his career.Murray is ranked at 54 and he wants to be seeded at Wimbledon, so he may rethink his decision not to play clay tournaments this year.

He could go to smaller tournaments, just to get some points, such as Munich, Geneva, and Stuttgart. I’m sure Queen’s Club would let him in, no matter what.

Agree, he should go to the smaller tournaments and build points

Gasquet is in an 18+ minute game trying to hold his first service game against Thiem.

EDIT: Thiem broke, up 2-0. The first two games took 23 minutes.

Sir Andy was dismissed almost as easily! He had nothing to prevent de Minaur from making him look bad! The clay season can be long at this point so Murray may feel he has no choice, but IMO it's only going to get worse for him trying to compete w/ these kids playing so defensively! :fearful-face:

" I don't want to sound arrogant, but in last year's French Open. I was playing my best tennis ever on clay. If I had not been injured, I could have won the title".

And then he woke up from his fantasy with torn ligaments in his foot

The newbies have to keep "hoping" because the results have shown us differently over the years! They do have ability, but somehow they haven't broken thru the "mental lock" Nadovic have had winning majors! Sascha's best chances have been BO3 on HC against Novak who's still winning at a great clip nearing 36! BO5 has shown "senior" players still have a mental edge over their competition! Nadal's showing a little weakness due to persistent injuries, but we'll see how long that lasts! :fearful-face: :anxious-face-with-sweat::thinking-face:

So complaining about surfaces is not limited to us fans on the internet, nor uncommon amongst players who actually end up doing well on them, after much whining.
You know one of the things that irks me so much is the subset of Federer fans who bitch & moan that the *only* reason Nadal ever won Wimbledon was because the grass was slowed down a thousand percent.

What these fans who apparently think tennis only started with the Swiss fail to grasp is that players known predominantly as “claycourters” could win on grass, you got Guillermo Vilas , 1974 Grand Prix YE & 2 AO’s, Matts Wilander 2 AO’s, Manuel Santana 65 US, 66 Wimbledon & of course Borg himself with 5 straight Wimbledon titles. Agassi at first hated grass & subsequently won it and made at least one more final and a slew of SF’s

On the flip side, Medvedev is familiar with the red dirt so it would not shock me to see him a breakthrough

No matter how much people think I'm a Novak sycophant & Nadal "hatah," I'm honest! People just don't like to hear & see truth & facts! :fearful-face: :thinking-face:

Just watching highlights of doubles matches at MC,
One of the most mis-matched doubles team I have seen, height wise, lol! Diego Schwartzman/ Jannik Sinner, teaming up, though they did beat the No 8 seeded team of Granollers/Zeballos 63 16 11- 9.

If he doesn't want to sound arrogant, he should think a little harder before he opens his mouth. He was playing some very fine tennis before the injury, but he was very likely about to go down 2 sets to love v. Nadal in that SF. Sure, he was in a SF, so was still in it with a shot, before the injury, but, for a guy who dropped a calf at his only previous Major final appearance, he might have considered for a moment that he was also still pretty far away. Just because you put the caveat, "I don't want to sound arrogant, but..." before a sentence, it doesn't excuse the gall. Let him win a Major, at least, before he puts that much swagger in it.

Does anyone take him seriously? lol! he must have forgot his 'major melt down ' at the USO when he had 3 CH points and let Dom win the final.
My advice to Zverev, Engage Brain before Opening You Mouth :)

Talking about Thiem, in Monte Carlo, has a new coach Benjammin Ebrahimzadeh and a new physio Matthias Kapl on trial basis

The Crown Prince is a bit of a paradox.

Sasha is definitely entitled & arrogant but you can’t help but wonder if it’s more & more a coping defense mechanism.

This month Zverev turns 26 (!)which is insanely young for most things in life, but to someone who at 20 was the anointed next tennis champ the clock is definitely ticking.

All the younger players, (Alcaraz, Sinner, Rune & FAA ) have bested him in the last year as Zverev is now approaching “middle age” in tennis years.
