I'm just shocked by the efforts of Fritz, Sinner, and Korda! I'm accustomed to rookies and players with less weapons to fold! Very shocking! :shushing-face:
Well Sinner needed to win this match, one stage with his blisters still bad from Miami,he was limping early in this match and I thought Oh No not again, anyway he got it together and won.I did not see Korda's match, maybe taking out Alcaraz was too much for him and came out flat.
I did see Grigor vs Ruud match earlier, again Ruud was flat.

This is what I love Sinner as for now: He is not playing his best tennis at least physically, but his mental fortitude at 20 years of age is amazing to see especially when you are not 100% physically

I have always been impressed by his composure on court, nothing seems to annoy him.
Jannik will face Zverev in a q/final match next.

Technically Yes, so I'll go back to hair dude, because that's shorthand for "he who has the best hair in tennis". :lol6:
However in person, in Indian Wells everyone was saying Rublev's hair looks more brown than ginger. That was some deep tennnis talk going on.

All matches are interesting to see...

The bottom half should be great matches IF all four players play up to their level.
H2H between Zverev and Sinner is 2-1 Zverev who has beaten Sinner twice on HC, Sinner has beaten Zverev in 2020 RG R16 in 4 sets

I am hoping that Sinner's blisters do not act up too much so he could play through the whole match.

Also, I am curious to if Sinner will ante up the speed of his Ground strokes to push Zverev out of the court just a little bit. One thing that the Clay court does to Sinner's game is that it allows Sinner to be more aggressive on his ground strokes without losing ground.

On HCs, Sinner has to have controlled aggression or else the opponent can just redirect his shots easily. Also, Sinner would not have any time to return those quick shots unlike on Clay.

I think Sinner has to have a good return game when he plays Zverev,I agree with your thoughts he needs to speed up his ground stroke to push Zverev out of the court,Zverev does have good wing span.I prefer his chances at present on clay,it does allow him time wise to be aggressive on both his wings.

Actually, he needs to have a very good service game or else Zverev will have a field day on Sinner's serve. I am not too worried about Sinner's return game either on HCs or on Clay because I think he has a natural feel on returning serves (similar to Medvedev).

On other hand, Sinner's serve has a lot of work to be done. It's not bad per say, but it lacks power and if his 1st serves are low percentage, he gets broken a lot.

I agree they could all be interesting. 6 of 8 of those players are all in the top 15, on live rankings. (Dimitrov #26 and ADF #44.) Everyone has a lot to play for, in various ways.

Davidovich Fokina has been the revelation for me. I hadn't seen a lot of him prior. Fritz is following up his IW win, and first US player to get this far at MC in some 15 years. Hurkacz always dangerous. I have given up on Dimitrov, but he should know what a chance he's got in the top half.

In the bottom half, if Zverev and Tsitsipas keep to recent form and performance in the face of opportunity, they should both lose tomorrow. :lol6: In any case, I'll be routing for Sinner. He'll have the Italian support there, right on the border. And you can never bet completely against the Short Man.

I forgot to add that about his service game I am eating my breakfast at present, hmm still I think Sinner on the return of Zverev's serve is important and could be a plus, just my thoughts
Sinner cant afford to have his service games like in his previous match....or else Zverev will have a field day

Out of Zverev and Tsitispas...I feel Tsitispas has been playing well.Like you I havent seen much of Fokina.Dimitrov tends to have a good couple of matches in a tournament then bows out,Hubi I just cannot get into his game at present,I will keep trying.

Agreed that, between what I've seen and heard on TV, Tsitsipas looks the stronger, hasn't dropped a set, but not looking indomitable. Also agree on HH...haven't yet gotten into him, but he does have some results, and a MS1000, IIRC.

I think Davidovich Fokina might be rounding into form. He's young, and has upside, but Fritz will probably get that one. I'm happy for either.
Always rather root against Dimitrov, so I'm going Hubie.
If Tsitsipas gets past a big challenge from Schwartzman, or actually raises his game and dominates, he'll be feeling good about himself. I'm sure he's already risen to the favorite.
I've already said who I favor in Sinner v. Zverev, plus I wonder if I'll ever root for Zverev again.

I think you already mentioned that Sinner will be the crowd favorite against Zverev, seeing Italy is just a hop, skip and a jump away,he also received crowd support in his match against Rublev.I was disappointed in Musetti, after putting in a solid performance in his previous match

Musetti has flair and talent, but he's barely just turned 20, he lacks discipline and, by a mile yet, consistency. In a way, the worst person for him to run into today was Schwartzman...a terrific clay player with discipline, rally tolerance, speed, experience and intelligence on the court. Musetti has a lot of upside, but he has a lot to learn, too. Hopefully he learned something today. I'm still "buying" on him. I hope he as a good clay season going forward, and I definitely put him in the category of spoiler for other players.

And surely he'd have seen the opportunity. Water under the bridge. Let's see who rises to the occasion.

I just realized this but the 12th, 13th 14th, and 15th ranked players in the world (live rankings) are all in the Quarterfinals. And they could potentially all advance in the semifinals.

I have never seen it before especially in a M1000 tournament.
