You have to feel that in this one, the first set is the match, if Novak wins it...

I felt that if Novak had at least one healthy leg he would win....:p

I felt he could win it sitting down... :p

I felt he could win it while doing a Sharapova impersonation on one good leg!

But seriously, my mind is still reeling from Dimitrov - Nadal. What a match! I really hope that kid figures it out.

When Djoker is swinging through the ball and confident in his shot he is something else.

:dodgy: Yeah, but you gotta figure in: he might be so overjoyed at finally winning a first set, he has a let down in the 2nd..

Nole's no kid, he doesn't do 'overjoy' when he wins a set against a Nieminen... ;)

How about he has a tendency to lose the 2nd set after playing real well in the first. Glad he had 2 breaks to play with. He just lost one of them. :dodgy:

Take a deep breath and repeat after me...slowly now....inhale...and... "Nieminen..." :p

What a return.

Didn't see everything (missed most of the second set), but Novak looked just fine. The Fog shouldn't be a problem. Can't wait till seeing another Rafa-Nole final!

Madness! Dimitrov takes the second with two breaks!

So strange that Nadal so regularly has to go to the bathroom after loosing a set.

Not strange at all. It is just a tactic to disrupt his opponent's rhythm.

Give me a break. He went to the bathroom at the end of the second set, and before the third set began. It was a completely legitimate time to go. It's not like he stopped play.

And keep in mind, everyone, that there's an umpire out there. Rafa would not have been allowed to leave court without his permission.

Sad to see Dimitrov take a set from Nadal at this tournament but fail to convert the win. But, not surprised. I mean, he did better than I thought he would.
Glad to see Fognini in the semis of a masters. I'm not like a huge fan of his. But I see how good he is and sort of like him but am always just so frustrated by how much he loses to people I think he should beat. So it's nice to see him get a good win over Gasquet, who I gave up on years ago, and move into the semis. I doubt he stands a chance against Djokovic. But I do hope he can find a way to beat him. Haas did... well... let's be real. Haas got lucky Djokovic woke up on the wrong side of the bed... as great as Haas is.

Did anyone see the 'Harlem Shake' from the Monte Carlo Player Party? Check out Milos.

Nadal's net game has looked surprisingly shaky since coming back. The one thing that stood out to me today is that for the most part, he was dictating, but actually grew frustrated when Dimitrov was tracking down some shots, which is unusual for Nadal. The main issue was indecision. Whenever he attacked the net, he do did so late. His positioning in the forecourt was verging on awful, and his volleys were pretty terrible as well.

His actual ground strokes were looking fine though, and he's moving well enough. I continue to be very impressed with his backhand since the comeback. I think the conditions actually didn't suit him, and his forehand wasn't getting as much work off the courts as it normally does on this surface. If the sun is out in the semis and final, don't be surprised to see him look much sharper.

The main aspect he needs to work on is the serve, as right now, it's really a non factor, and he's having to work extra hard.

Dimitrov actually played a very smart match, and playing the slice to Rafa's forehand is a damn smart strategy. Slicing to Rafa's backhand is suicide since his footwork allows him to run around it and basically do whatever he wants with the ball (nobody punishes slices like Nadal), but when you slice to his forehand, he usually doesn't have much to work with beyond hitting a relatively tame cross court forehand (he especially hates changing directions and going up the line off of low cross court slices to his forehand).

I didn't see Rafa's match but would love to find it on youtube to see for myself why Toni had to coach him against baby Fed.

Probably everyone knows that Djoker is coming back to his spooky form and I don't need to tell you how happy I am about it. Next is Fog who is from nearby San Remo, so the match will probably look like Davis Cup especially because Fognini managed to take a set from Djoker in iw, but then choked big time in the third.

Mastoor...are you really going to accuse 'coaching' on a match you haven't seen? Where'd you get that from? And, does "not dropping a set" count as "spooky form?" Against Neminen? :dodgy:

Anyway, Fognini is entertaining, but based on the match with Gasquet, I don't think he looks like a threat to your man, even on one leg.

Of course i am not accusing on the match I haven't seen, I read tennis fans elsewhere mentioning Toni coached in the match . Ts-ts-ts, is it that you can't trust anything you read these days?

Djoker's match i actually saw and he is definitely coming back to his spooky form, he is not far from it at all. I hope he will shake off the rest of the rust in the semi.
Fognini must be in a good form + he will be backed by hundreds of noisy compatriots, so the semi won't be just walk in the park for No1e. But that is what he needs if he wants to lift the trophy.

Anyway, I feel like telling you all I can say in French: Allez Tsonga!

Actually, by mentioning "coaching," you are accusing it. Can I recommend that you be more cautious about things that you read on the internet, until you've seen a match? (PS...you could also google it, and there's no reference.)

Rooting for Tsonga, eh? Afraid to face Rafa? :p LOL!

In all likelihood at this point, it'll be a Rafa-Nole final. The weather may help Nole, but I still doubt it will be enough. Game on, I hope!

Nice to see F3 take a match seriously for a change. I have a feeling that his "non-chalante" attitude is his "out" for when he loses. If everyone thinks that he doesn't care, then it must mean that he doesn't care. I don't buy the act. I think that he cares, but is somewhat "scared". He may not be the best player in the world, but the guy has some skills, and is fun to watch. He (and Youzhny) are my (sic Kieren) "Calbandians".

Now you are behaving like a 6 year old making up some silly rules. Of course only mentioning coaching is not accusing, as I explained I wanted to see what someone else qualified as Toni's coaching, but now when I saw it for myself i can tell you that the person who reported it was right.

Toni did yell something at 5-2 30-40 in the second set, probably some sort of encouragement and as a coach he is not allowed to say anything, therefore he did break the rules.

Tsonga became No1e's pigeon last couple of years and I would prefer sure things as you could imagine, but yes, more than likely, it will be No1e Rafa final. Let the better Novak win!

I don't think I made any "silly rules" to say that it's unkind to accuse when you haven't even seen a match.

But I know you have your own rules, Mastoor. :) May the best Rafa win.

To be fair, Uncle Toni is notorious for his coaching during a match. I've heard commentators often make mention of Toni getting a few words in to his nephew.

Even the cameramen get in on the act - he'll be yelling and gesturing right up to when he realizes the camera is on him, then the mouth shuts, the wildly waving arms fold across his chest, and then he gives the look that says, "What? What? I didn't do nothing!"

I don't really care, cause I think coaching should be allowed at certain points during a match. Uncle Toni makes me chuckle.

Notorious, by some people's estimation. I think the notion that Toni coaches is overstated. I actually think that he and Rafa do it more by instinct, and telepathy, and you can't regulate for that. They're related, and they've been working together since Rafa was about 4. I find it not really believable that Rafa even NEEDS coaching by Toni at this point. But I'd be happy to look at examples.

It would be funny if they allowed coaches yelling, it would look more like boxing.

Perhaps, they can move chairs to corners too.
