Following qualified for the main draw:
Golubev, Bogomolov, Thiem, Johnson, Sock, Goffin, Mathieu, Jaziri, Bedene, Wang, De Bakker.

I'm glad Thiem didn't falter in the qualifiers. I want to see more of him. And by the way, how do most people feel about Jack Sock's game? I know he had success as a junior but I haven't seen much of his game and haven't really heard anyone mention him as a potential future star.

Diminutive Tim Smyczek knocked him out in the first round of IW. Personally I think any hype he's received has been US desperation to find someone, anyone and build them up. Really do not see the physical ability, tennis talent, or emotional make up to be a top player.

Kolya out. Is it just me or does Kolya look like he is going through the motions, collecting a paycheck and just not really caring that much about anything anymore? It sounds harsh but that's what I am getting from his body language...

Maybe he had a bet on the other fella...

EDIT: for legal reasons, I should have added a light-hearted, only jesting, smiley... :D

I just read the news on Twitter that Del Potro will withdraw from the tournament. He just announced it on his Facebook page.

With Del Potro out of the tournament, there are three guys who can make the Quarterfinals: Monfils, Raonic, and Pospisil.

Maybe I am slow, but I am seriously not understanding this guy...Him and his camp, they did not know he was not going to be ready and waited until after the draw to withdraw? Every single person on this board knew he was not ready.

Exactly. I don't know what's up with del Po, especially since I read that his doc was encouraging him to play more - before IW... :nono

Time for left wrist surgery Mr. Del Potro. High time for it at this stage.

One thing I read is that it isn't the same injury as the one to the right, and that therefore it didn't need surgery. (Or at least, I guess according to that quack he's going to at the Mayo Clinic.) But that would at least imply rest. I join the chorus in asking what is Juan Martin thinking? Perhaps he should do what Pennetta did for her wrist: she had it done by Rafa's doctor.

I agree with you, Murat. Davydenko has never seemed to be one to have his ego much wrapped up in the big wins. And now he seems contented to just wring the last rubles out of his career.

Thiem's story is kind of like Pete's in one aspect. He had a double handed backhand and his coach changed it to a single hander and down went his rankings and results for a while, exactly what happened to Pete. But once he got it, things started working out.

Roger better get some practice in Tie-breakers. He played poor TB against
Novak in IW. Now, Ace Machine Dr. Ivo Karlovic is waiting for him in the first
round. What a surprise, Dr. Ivo won his first round in two tie-breakers.

what a start to a tourney..delpotro gimps off, ivan leaves andy at the altar, and the usual gaggle of uk players crash out at the first available opportunity.

Good job by Thiem as well as by Vesely. The 2 young guys again get over the R1 hurdle like in IW.
And both were done in straight sets.
Vesely - Volandri 6-4, 7-6(1).
Vesely is meeting another veteran Spaniard, Deliciano.

Really good forehand and serve. Atrocious backhand, makes Harrison's backhand look great!

I think he could at some point make a run into the top 50, maybe top 20, but not a future great.
