The Tournament

The Miami Open is one of the crown jewels of the spring hard-court season. As a combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event, it brings together the world’s best men and women for two weeks of high-stakes competition under the Florida sun.

Originally launched in 1985 and long known for its star power and glamorous atmosphere, the tournament is now staged at Hard Rock Stadium. The transformation of an NFL venue into a tennis showpiece creates one of the most distinctive settings on tour - a vast centre court built inside the stadium bowl, surrounded by multiple outer courts and a festival-style campus.

The Miami Open has consistently delivered defining moments in the sport. Its honour roll includes many of the game’s most iconic champions across eras, and lifting the trophy here is often seen as a statement of dominance on hard courts. The conditions - warm temperatures, humidity, and sometimes lively breezes - test endurance as much as shot-making, favouring players who combine power with patience.

Few cities match Miami’s blend of colour, culture, and coastline. Set between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Miami is a crossroads of the Americas, shaped by Latin American and Caribbean influences that give it a distinct rhythm and identity.

From the Art Deco streets of South Beach to the glass towers of Brickell and the creative energy of Wynwood, Miami feels vibrant and international. Sunshine, palm trees, music, and nightlife are part of daily life - and during tournament week, tennis becomes another strand in the city’s dynamic tapestry.

The Miami Open captures that spirit perfectly: elite sport presented with flair, in a city that thrives on spectacle, diversity, and big-stage moments.

I think this is Djokovic's best chance to win a big tournament. Djokovic played some of his best tennis last year at Miami.

It must be serious if he's withdrawing in a place where he played his best tennis last year. How serious is TBD, but I think this means he's probably not going to play clay season or the FO. I expect Novak to next play on grass.

Any player that withdraws with a shoulder injury is serious? cant serve for starters with a injured shoulder.
Just because he has withdrawn from Miami dosent mean he wont play some clay tournaments wait and see

The draw has been made,
Alcaraz - Fonseca is a possible 2nd round match, Fonseca opens against Marozson, would play Alcaraz in R2 if he wins

Just reading comments from James Blake, tournament director in Miami ( another good looking man ) he said Fonseca will play on the main stadium court, if he defeats his first round opponent Marozson, he will then face Alcaraz in round 2. Going by last year the stadium Fonseca was put on wasnt big enough for all the Brazilian fans.

Been reading so many articles about Djokovic withdrawing from Miami! It's been made into something huge as if it's something new & detrimental to his future! They sight his "best chance of winning a Masters," losing his defending pts from last yrs.' final, & most of all disappointing the fans! Top players WD every other event these days! It's so bizarre for hair-raising commentary about Novak's WD from Miami! :angry-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Mrzz if you are around,

The Fonseca v Marozan match wont be on stadium court, because of torrential rain prior to tournament starting, they dont want to put Fonseca's match on the outside courts.Meaning Fonseca's match has been moved to Thursday, if he wins he may have to play Alcaraz with no rest, on Friday

People here are crying about his luck drawing Sinner then Alcaraz, but I actually think he was very lucky. Invaluable experience.

The conspirator in me couldn't let this coincidence by, by the way ...

But now he has a very tough opponent in Marozsan. Should be a good match.

But don't you think if Novak was anywhere close to healthy/able to play, he would have given it a go at Miami?

This move tells me that Novak is saving himself for Wimbledon, and we will likely see him next at Halle or Queens.
