I'm sorry but in ANY sport when you see someone not giving their all fans should call them out.

The Big 3 should not be a cover now for saying, "sure Player X isn't trying but they are not Rafa, Novak, Federer..." It's irrelevant, here is a Masters title without the BIG 3 there, a golden opportunity, to stamp that you are close to being a top dog and then, frustrated, you start deliberately redlining your shots , so it's either in or out because you give up figuring out your opponent?? Seriously? He's the frigging #1 seed and everyone can clearly see what he's doing. Sorry, but the tennis fans in the stadium and on TV are not idiots. He was TANKING. Period. Not the whole match but certainly at the end. Medvedev gave up in the AO final, so yes, he's very talented and may still claw his way to being a genuine champion but until then he's going to be called to the carpet for lackluster efforts like this one. There are alot of players who don't have his natural talent, who may have bad days and lose, but they are not going to pack it up. They do exist. So There is an "easy" way to shut everyone up.

Same thing happened the first few years of Novak on tour, he had a rep for being "mentally weak " and a quitter, and little backbone for all his talent. That tag wasn't just pinned on him, there were several promising talented players labeled the same.

So ragging on Medvedev today isn't the same thing as writing him off forever, but tanking pisses me off.

Okay, I agree with your assessment about tanking. That’s a bad look to everyone on any sport period.

Again this is all about Medvedev who didn't play his best, disinterested,or tanked points at the end of his match, again he had so much to play for?. then why didnt the officials look into his match and fine him??? they have done that with other players who have looked disinterested all match and did not give their best effort.I am also against tanking.,which is not a good look for our sport or any sport.
Though the credit should go to RBA.....most people here are not crediting him with the win, like it was on Medvedev's racquet.RBA had a H2H 2-0 coming into this match up and deserved his win full stop.

I don't disaagree with any of what you're saying...however...

a) the top players get away with a lot, that is not a shocker. Much more than the rank and file. Player ranked 115 is going to be fined, the #1 seed and a top 2 player in the world, not very likely. Precisely because he is name player and it would not be a good "look" for the sport to acknowledge his tanking. Which is why someone of his caliber tanking ticks me off so much.

b) Again, no argument. RBA was going to win, was up in the 3rd set and Medvedev was frustrated. The problem was that Medvedev , like I said, because he couldn't figure out RBA's game, tanked at the end. Sorry if I didn't make clear that Medvedev tanking was because he was clearly being outplayed. RBA apparently is a bad nightmare matchup for for the grumpy Russian, RBA 3-0 now head2head vs. the nappy Russian.

I concur with your point regarding Medvedev and why he ticks you off, that is why I cannot understand why he did what he did in the match when he had soo much to play for.His play at the AO was just awful he clearly did not have a game plan, again he had the tools to defeat Novak and had defeated him before.I cannot work out his form at all at times,he does my head in,he clearly has the talent at times he does not apply himself.

Could this young one be a real article?
I think they said this is only his 3rd time in a MS 1000 main draw. And last time a teenager made a final of a MS 1000 was Djokovic, who won it. I'm buying into the idea that he is the real deal. I went out and so taped the 3rd set, then watched it without checking the scores. He was the aggressor in much of the match, but he was in trouble for good parts of it, but stuck with the plan and toughed it out. He's my favorite player still in, and I hope the final is v. Rublev. I'll be rooting for Sinner, but if Rublev wins, I'll be fine.

I’m in the grandstand watching the Russian struggle against a confident Hubert

I thought this match was starting later. Just tuned in to see Rublev in a lot of trouble. Nerves? Too much Hubie?

As an aside, every time they show the crowd I'm thinking, "Does no one in Miami understand how to wear a mask?" You've got the nose uncovered, or the mask around the chin, or no mask whatsoever.

Rublev doing as suggested by testing HH's nerves in closing it out, but he's risking being too passive, too.

Hurkacz takes it. I have no real feel for him, but he played some great tennis. What's the report from the front, @shawnbm?

Hubi deserved his win well done and he really did not allow Rublev to play his game.
They have played once before before Hubi won that match.

So sad that the most beautiful hair in men’s tennis, Rublev, is out of the running for the Miami Masters. Impressed with Hurkacz DTL backhand , deserving win.

Well, Moxie, some folks have mansion that feel comfortable going back and forth with the Russian and his back and down the line hurt the Russian more than a few times. This serve up the tea and out why there’s also quite big. He moves pretty well for a guy was 6‘5“ tall as well. I think the Russian was a bit off, but I think this because the Pole makes him uncomfortable.

Not to take away from Hubie, who did play pretty well from what I saw, but I wonder if the pressure of being the favorite, by virtue of the last couple of rounds, wasn't a bit too much pressure on Rublev, too. Because, while he likes to hit hard and go for broke, I find him a generally smart player. But I did miss the whole first set.

I suspect Rublev's hair is about to get its own Instagram account. :face-with-tears-of-joy:
