Don't forget Rosol was a botched volley away from 2 sets to love against Rafa last time they played which proves it was no fluke the time before.

Nobody is saying that Rosol is a bad player, he is good and has good shots but far to be "The Boogeyman" for any player, you just have to check his results and titles

Never claimed he was but he's one of these guys who plays his best against the top ranked players, in particular his power game is one which has given Nadal trouble on grass during the early rounds of Wimbledon for years and had he not missed that volley in the 2nd set tiebreak he'd have been up 2 sets to love.

If, if, if , but then we also could say IF Nadal would have had his knee in better conditions than he probably wouldn't have lost that match. And I've never heard that Rosol has given Nadal trouble on grass "for years" or not more hard than he has given to others

What excesive obsession someones have with Rosol, then why they don't have the same obsession with Stakhovsky? . Hey, it was just one match :nono

I always liked Baghdatis a lot and also his crowd which always were cheering like it was a DC
By the way I thought he was retired but I see he still is playing and no too bad
To answer your question,Rafa isn't allowed to have a bad day at the office against someone like Rosol. O n this board Rafa could solve world peace, it wouldn't matters because of number 17 and their Beloved, it's the God's honest truth

Agree, that number 17 is the key of all their concern and obsession

Speaking of which, is Rafa playing today or tomorrow?

You mentioned twice that he was almost up two sets to love. Which isn't actually being up two sets to love, and it's still not a win, even if he had managed it. Poor Rosol really needs to work on his legacy.

I dunno why some Nadal fans are getting so grumpy about a quite justified post I made re Rosol's performances against him. There's no one here claiming the guy is a total beast of a player, what I said initially was it was a tough draw. Jeez. Anyway, it just got easier as Baghdatitis is probably an easier match for Nadal.

Here's my post below and I also said he showed a year later it was no fluke he beat him before as he was close to being up 2 sets to love. Again, nothing wrong there. Seriously dunno why people are getting so uptight and defensive about it. But then again, it goes hand in hand I guess, defensive people like defensive players. Nothing wrong with that really but no need to go ah yeah but he didn't win, blah blah. I never said he did. I said he was a tough opponent.

If Rafa could bring in world peace, would not that also include end of Fedal Wars as part of it.

I don't know how Nadal's supposed to get past these players on grass with his confidence in such turmoil? He has to contend with Bags tomorrow, then the winner of Haas and Tomic with Monfils in his half of the draw! I'll be truly impressed if he makes if he makes it to the final! I may have to wake up early to catch this! :dodgy: :popcorn

It's a tune-up and the idea is to get his grass feet. He doesn't have to get past all of them or even win it. The confidence will come with match wins. I'm pretty sure he's playing another tune-up, too.

There's a better chance at bringing in world peace.

See that was the point I was making. His knee was not the reason he lost to Rosol originally as he very nearly went down 2 sets to love the second time they played too. Anyway, no point arguing with yet another Nadal fan who only blames his losses on his knee.

^ You can't outrun a 99mph backhand, forehand or an ace.

Will miss it with work but would be impressive if he chewed them up. Might well be the other way round though :p

Absolutely. But that's the beauty of it. It'll be competitive, especially if he plays the stalker, Rosil, who loves to play villains. But this is the medicine he needs. No point in playing patsies at this stage. I always like Rafa's attitude and I'm glad he's playing this event. Good to use the extra week this year before Wimbledon...

agree....Rafa needs competitive matches and opponents now.happy that he is playing there.

There's some serious holes your above posts. First of all, there's no doubt that Rosol is troubling for Nadal on grass given the way he plays.

That said, using the "he almost went up two sets to love" logic makes no sense. Even slight discomfort in the knee can be the difference between losing a match in 5 and winning a set in 4. Regardless, it's irrelevant as they were two separate matches two full years apart. One doesn't prove anything regarding the other (otherwise I could claim that Nadal winning in 4 proves he was injured in 2012).

But, let's stick with that logic. I guess Nadal beating Soderling in straight sets at the 2010 FO final proves there was something wrong with him when he lost the previous year to the same player in 4? Careful, this cuts both ways.

With regards to the above quoted post, no, all the knees in the world wouldn't help you get back some of Rosol's winners, but that is a very shortsighted way of putting it, because it's hardly the only thing a knee injury affects. It also affects his ability to get down low and pick up low bouncing balls, especially on grass, it also means he will get to some balls a split second late and thus muster up a weak or short reply that Rosol was eating up. It affects the two handed backhand, especially given the way Nadal hits it, as well as the sliced backhand.

I think a 7 months absence shows there clearly was something wrong with Nadal, as does the poor movement. Perhaps he would have lost anyway, but seeing as the match ended 6-4 in the fifth, you can make an argument that a bit of health could produce the same outcome in reverse (or even a more decisive outcome), since margins are so small.

That said, I have no idea why so many took issue with Front's initial statement. He didn't claim Rosol was an all time great or anything.
